When I got into football 50 years back I remember having a book which described Walsall as a “Cinderella” club. I think that belief that we will never amount to much is still there, engrained in the DNA.
I don’t know how Trivela can change this but clearly they need to do more than they have so far.
Some of Sadler’s observations, as reported in the Guardian
'For us, you have to use these things as motivation and fuel. When you’re stood there and you’re watching those celebrations, it’s like a slow torture if you’re not the one celebrating.”
All of three weeks ago they were watching Bradford celebrate or at least hearing about it so that is just standard cliche driven PR stuff you say after a big defeat so don’t really see it as some big motivation drive for next year.
As you say how much more motivation do you need than knowing you’ve screwed up the lead we had and then watched automatic promotion snatched away at the very end of the league campaign
There’ll be no “inquest”.
There’ll be no explanation of why a peoven goalscorer was shafted for the majority of the season - I couldnt even give a toss if DJ is a bit of a “bad-egg” or has a pap on him, the bloke scores goals and should have featured more.
The absolute shit show of a January. Amantchi and a lad who couldnt make a single match day squad in particular.
Fookin fuming and I couldnt even go today so i dread to think how you poor sods who went are feeling.
The bloke had 2 chances at promotion. 1 absolute golden one and i doubt you’ll ever see a team with that much of a lead in January ever again, let alone one be reeled in by 3 teams.
Go Mat, just go. Im absolutely disgusted and heartbroken. More for our younger fans that for now… all they have ever known is shit.
Trivela, hang your heads. It should never have got too this.
I cannot believe the hate we are getting on social media it seems like only Walsall fans wanted us to win today.
Really looking forward to the fans forum, see what ‘spin’ they try to put on the most embarrassing season in living memory.
Forever to be known as the ‘Bottlejobs’ . I hate football
Still laughing he actually brought Barrett on.
The bloke absolutley stinks the place out. Not an ounce of emotion or drive in the man. Get him gone.
Not seen a bloke less arsed in a Walsall shirt. He doesn’t even break into a jog.
Shared a nice moment on the way back with a family of Wimbledon fans, the little girl of the family was so happy and I couldn’t help but crack a smile thinking of my own daughter. Unfortunately it’s a lost opportunity for us to cement that memory in our own young fans, what a let down and opportunity for our next generation to latch on to something. I doubt the club realise what damage they have done to blow an generational gift laid to them on a plate. Never been so despondent as I am right now as a Walsall fan.
He was absolutely appalling today I was going mad watching him.
I know we’re getting some right pelters. Really embarrassing
The hate is really something
Probably because fans were effectively saying we had won the league back in Jan! Had our fingers burnt on that score, same as when we sang we are going up after leading at home to Port Vale. We should all know better how badly this club can shaft us. If I was a fan of another club I’d be giving us pelters as well, fortunately what they don’t see is as fans we could see what was coming and we know we are shite.
Just don’t read the Oatcakes Fanzine, their opinions of Walsall are beyond low (no pun intended) and say the same that we were very poor and offered nothing. Not much love for Levi on there too, likened to one of their worst players…
In that respect we are the victims of our phenomenal pre -Christmas form and the hype that, inevitably came with it. Most fans I know were very wary that we could continue to reach those standards throughout the season though.
When we were doing so well, other fans were saying it was evidence of how poor the division was!
Leading the table, for as long as we did, did us no favours either.
Some of the crap on social media from the seeming alliance of the other promoted teams is just plain weird. For such an inconsequential club they certainly spend a lot of time looking at us.
But that’s just standard answer bollox if I may. Watching Walsall has been an absolute joy at times from a football perspective during my lifetime. At others it’s been plucky failure or near survival from failure, but none the less engaging and entertaining. At no point during the last 50 years did I worry that socialising with my mates and family depended on Walsall FC because it doesn’t. You can also have a nice time with the aforementioned whilst at the same time critiquing the nuts out of the shambles on the pitch. Your beer won’t go flat and your family won’t disown you.
Does anyone seriously sit there and think ‘this is great!’ When watching this style of football???
Since January it’s been awful. Long hoof ball doesn’t do it for me I’m afraid.
Identity? What identity?
My 10 year old daughter is asking why DJ wasn’t on for the last 20 minutes
It’s bizarre and changes by the minute, we started the game with plenty of possession.
Then resorted to zero possession when chasing the game, it’s literally mind blowing stuff.
