Was talking to a Fulham fan on the tube who had come to support us today because of the support Walsall fans had given them when they were in danger of going out of business. He seemed genuinely disappointed about both us losing and how poor we were. Not as much as me admittedly!
Still got to meet up with my children together for first time in 18 months so that was something positive..
A depressingly shambolic uninspiring if not unexpected ninety minutes!
" Clearly we had a good lead this season and we lost some really good players, that happens." Sadler quoted on BBC.
Just a reminder that , when the speculation about Lowe being recalled started last year, he said he wasn’t bothered because they had all eventualities covered.
And what does he mean by " players," plural? If he’s referring to Hall and Earing, these were out long-term well before the transfer window closed. So either he’s admitting we didn’t replace them adequately, or worse, that we did ,and made inadequate use of their replacements.
If he said that, he’s got to go
Words of a man who knows he is being sacked I think.
Playing the low budget card in that interview I see.
I assume Crawley’s budget was lower half when they went up last season.
It still allows you to have a shot at goal first half if you prepare them properly Mat…
I will never forget the ‘great 2025 collapse’ absolute joke since January, epitomised by not even laying a finger on Wimbledon today.
Gutted! Not surprised! Scared for the future!
No change there then. We hold them in equally high esteem.
This in particular.
“We certainly have moved the football club forward and I won’t be swayed at all with that.”
Hints of ," I did the job to my own satisfaction. "
Met mark Rees before the game, a player much maligned by some on here who strangely pontificate about the finer points of Sadler and how grateful we should be for half a season of fourth division incremental progress.
My god, imagine what a pumped up Reesy in his prime would have done against that pile of dross on that pitch today??? Doesn’t bear thinking about, the left back would have ended up wearing his jock strap as ear muffs. Those were players that defined Walsall FC, not world beaters, but they didn’t need social media and arm waving to get the fans revved up.
I listened to both interviews and my overriding feeling was this was a man who doesn’t have a single worry anywhere in his mind that he will be sacked.
No chance.
There was a moment by block 114 where two supporters seemed to get borderline arsey with how quiet we were.
I agree with them in principle, but did they not see that first half? We have bugger all to get excited for. Some of the losers and bottlers in our squad don’t deserve the extra effort. Being in the playoffs at all was indicative of failure; no wonder it was a bit flat.
Should be free to read if you can negotiate the ads
“Boycott, founder of the club’s ownership group Trivela, declined to give any assurances over the future of head coach Mat Sadler when asked the question by ITV an hour after the final whistle.”
I have a terrible memory so am happy to be confirmed wrong, but didn’t the club sign DJ in the gap after Sadler was in temporary charge and before he was given the job full time?
At the end of the season when DJ went back to Mansfield, wasn’t ROK advising Sadler while he was in temporary charge? I understand ROK left the club in no doubt that they shouldn’t sign DJ as he was a “bad egg”.
The club signed DJ in the void, no doubt to shift a few season tickets before the massively underwhelming news of Sadlers appointment. If we assume Sadlers opinion was the same as ROKs, I guess he never wanted DJ and the last 2 seasons would bear that out?
Announce DJT!!!
I went with my dad today. He used to go home and away without missing a game in the 80’s. His last game was Bolton at home in the Carling cup in 2006 ish (I think) … he was there today with fresh eyes … he could not believe Dave was a professional footballer. Made the exact same observations as me and everyone around us. Wins headers though so
Don’t believe everything you read.
Can’t bare to watch the highlights on currently but will brave it after half 9 once the sorry 90 minutes are over to see if he pops up on it just to see the context.
Basically if Sadler isn’t gone by this time next week he’ll get the start of next season but it will be become very toxic quickly so doubt he makes it past October personally.
Anyone else note that when McEntee was waiting to come on as sub, the coach (Waddock?) went through a flip-file on ‘tactics’ with him. McEntee barely gave them a glance.
Is that how the team respond to instructions lately?
