After watching that i would say 11
If DC is serious about rebuilding positivity in respect of team spirit and the bond between the fans and the club then unfortunately Ferrier is exactly what we don’t need, because one bad performance and he will be a negative focal point again. That’s a bit sad, but that’s how it is, he would literally have to produce about 10 consecutive walk-on-water performances to turn it round, and he hasn’t got that in him. Infact If he managed one it would more than likely lead to some kind of arrogant “look what I just did” celebration. Best all round if he moves on.
Joke forward line disgrace nothing to offer
As it was on YouTube that was the first preseason friendly I’ve seen. Not sure I learnt much to be honest, an absolute chasm in class. That’s what 100 million quid gets you. Adebayo caught my eye early on and Sinclair looks like he’ll be a favourite. Apart from that we didn’t offer much. I’m not sure what we got out of it though, a more competitive fixture would have been better. I guess I’ll learn more when the season starts for real. Is this fixture long past its sell by date?
I think Adebayo showed glimpses of a cracking striker in the making.
Why are people judging a game against a premier league side ?
There is no point to this fixture, what has that done to our preparations for the season? Anything useful??
Extra cash, well that’s a moot point as I doubt we will see much of that.
should we judge us against the non league teams then ?
There was only one or two that’s showed some promise ,I do like the look of Sinclair ,busy and sharp but many others fell a bit short and the seasons fast approaching ,o really think league 2 will be more of a physical game and we have a few light weight players ,I do hope ferrier doesn’t put a Walsall shirt on again cause he simply wants out
Absolutely, it is.
For all anyone can say about however many thousand quid the local Villa casuals drop into our coffers once a year, when- for example- we’ve invested 5+ years in a young goalkeeper, and he was already a broken spirit made flesh, thanks to 18 months playing behind a spineless shambles, before losing his place to a 30-something from the non-leagues, it sullies the good name of counterproductive when, on his first appearance back on home turf, he’s fishing the ball out his net three times before he’s laid a meaningful glove on it.
I’m sure Pring’s confidence has taken a hit tonight, too. He took a right hammering in that first half.
Calm the ■■■■ down
Some okay performances but a lot for DC to think about regarding certain players and formations.
Villa were awesome and it just goes to show how good Smith is as a manager.
Only positives out of that were Adebayo and Sinclair’s goal. There’s the obvious caveat of pre-season and the gulf in class, but the lack of any sort of creativity was really worrying.
Ferrier also looked every bit of a player that couldn’t wait to leave, and hopefully Clarke has now seen enough.
The Tranmere game should give us the clearest indication of where we’re at, but I’m currently not at all convinced of our play-off credentials.
A good point made - Tranmere will be a better gauge of where we are as we were never going to win this. Ferrier needs to do one, just ran aimlessly and moaned. Hope this has shown DC all he needed to know about him.
I wonder if Ireland went into today’s cricket match worrying about the gulf in class? We need to go into every match with a positive mindset regardless of the opposition. We showed Villa much too much respect stood off them, gave them the room to play and the end result was no surprise.
Wow! Welcome to “over reaction central”!! How many on here are still pi$$ed off that we didn’t reach the Champions League Final last season? After all, we beat the semi-finalists in pre-season…
This was a meaningless friendly, that we play each year to fill the coffers. The true test will come on the 3rd of August.
BTW, Adebayo looks a right handful.
Judging the defence is harsh, think they have done a good job up to now, goalkeeper made some really basic errors that he was making last season though and that’s a worry, things like how quickly you react, how quick you get down don’t depend on the opposition.
Our creativity is lacking - that’s been a problem throughout preseason against the non league sides and tonight.
That’s all this game is about, money from all the villains for Bonsers wallet, what on earth does WFC get out of this fixture apart from a morale damaging spanking prior to the start of the season. This fixture is ancient and tired, very much like our chairman and board.
Summed up perfectly in one sentence and is the only reason it’s still going. A few extra quid to spend on wallpaper in the Bonser suite at the risk of damaging morale close to the new season above anything else. Wouldn’t expect anything different from this lot though.
Forget the obvious gulf in class , but The expectation is to do the basics properly , clearing the ball , following runners etc
We didn’t do that well enough
I think the new shirts are to blame, our players obviously didn’t recognise each other.
We were well roasted all over the pitch, but a lot of really basic errors and surely we should have been more competitive in the last 20 minutes when Villa made 8 subs? Shell-shocked, slow, pushed off the ball too easy, lack of confidence, second to everything. The second half produced our move of the match when MacDonald got hold of the ball, showed nice feet and found another spearmint coloured shirt. That was it. We didn’t look like a team, just a collection of 15 or so players who don’t know each other’s names.
I watched Walsall Wood last night and that seemed more our level.
I’m gonna go controversial here. Morgan Ferrier didn’t exert himself, but he had zero, zilch, zip to work with, not even scraps. Dann scarr over hit the ball to him once and Rose hoofed a couple of clearances back to their goalie. I don’t blame him for not being interested in a chase on those. I’d have patience for him for another game lining up with Abracadabra or however you spell the new tall lads name. Gordon was a headless chicken and certainly no better.
Quick edit on creativity: we didn’t have the ball for longer than 10 seconds at any one time, it’s fair to say that the Vile were just too good, big, strong, fast and stifled this out of our humble game. Still would have Ozzy back in a flash though.
Got my 12 quids worth out of watching Jack Grealish, what a talent he his.
