Aston Villa (H) 24th July, 7.45pm

Agreed.

I hope the club interested in Ferrier were not watching :confounded:

Understand the commercial benefits, but I’d rather have seen us play someone like Coventry or Burton tonight. Far better gauge of where we are and a more worthwhile exercise than trying to get the ball off a 100m team from three tiers up. Lot of players making their home debut on a hiding to nothing.

Same old same old in the stadium suite had 2 1/2 months to get the bar right and 1 st game one bar breaks down then surrounded by Villa sc u m in your own end the cash cow rages on can’t wait not to boycott the ground for refreshments when the real games come along when they need our money down the railway I shall go, great to see the ground had bit of spruce up in the close season NOT, NOTHING CHANGES

Well, Northampton will be rubbing their hands in anticipation of an easy 3 point start to their season!
We were warned by Brizzle fans however that DC teams always start the season poorly, which could be a bit demoralising if after a few weeks we are stuck in the bottom half of the 4th Division!

A demoralising game that’s become a yearly event simply for the cash, not gonna get carried away with result.
One thing stood out for me and that was Grealish, none of our lot could get within five foot of him, he makes them tick and will be interesting to see how he does in premier league.

What are the commercial benefits of replacing a fixture the fans are bored to tears with one that generates a little bit of excitement? Even if you don’t make up the cash shortfall you start rebuilding the broken fan relations.

Wonder if the Vile will let Liverpool, Chelsea, Utd and the likes in the ****** end, so why should we have to suffer the SC U M IN OURS YEAR ON YEAR JOKE

And most of those probably live in Walsall as well to make matters worse.
We were always gonna get tanked - can’t believe the over reaction here.

What sort of reception did smiffy get?

Gordon is a headless chicken and gives away far too many silly fouls which cost us goals a few times last season i like the guy but how people can think he is the answer to us losing Cook is beyond me tbh.Not that concerned about the result it was always going to happen and this friendly is only serving one purpose as usual.

That’s the point I’m making. Villa game is clearly a money-spinner but it’s proving to be an increasingly poor work out for our players and an uninspiring fixture for our fans. WFC aren’t going to turn down the cash though are they.

As for the relationship between the club and fans, it’ll take more than an imaginative pre-season game to get the ball rolling.

So, let’s wait until we’ve played 10 matches in L2 before passing judgement. This squad has yet to be finalised.

At this stage I’m not worried.

I’m worried. We are 3 or 4 quality players short of a team that can seriously challenge for promotion this season. I don’t think 5-3-2 is the best formation for us. I think 4-2-3-1 is the way to go but we need at least 1 new winger and a striker to play that way.

Looking at the same fixture last year Got bossed 1st half but more competitive 2nd with the kids. Now all those kids gone😂

Cash in the bank. Team got tonked. New kit looked mint.

Don’t care about Premier League, League 2 gulf but what worries me is the whole of pre-season we have lacked a composed goalkeeper, someone decent alongside Sadler and Clarke, pace in midfield, creativity and a striker that looks confident. All of the above was missing again tonight.

Regardless of the opposition you have to do the basics right too. I felt there was no direction to our game other than high pressing. We did constant hoof balls upfront and didn’t use the wing backs as wing backs.

The money (around £70,000) is nice each summer but to get tonked in your only home game of pre-season certainly doesn’t help morale around the place, stability of a positive home campaign nor our ability to try and make Bescot more appealing for wavering fans.

This Villa friendly does more harm than good to us.

But we beat Ajax in a similar “promotional” match last season- a team far higher in their respective pyramid and we had…oh yes…well…a great 1819 campaign😂

Why…?
