Aston Villa (H) 24th July, 7.45pm

Drives me nuts when people say this

We beat a THIRD STRING Ajax team last season

It was no giantkilling - we played the reserves of the reserves

Still have faith and think it will be a different game come August 3rd (he says)

Not exactly worried that we will probably be in the bottom half after a few games, more the fact that we will probably be in a negative goals for/against position once again.
The poor goalkeeper situation is real task for DC, and, if we can’t score at the opposition end without an out and out striker, whilst letting in easy goals at tother, the consequences ARE worrying for our immediate future.

Don’t know why but every time I see Jack Grealish ( on tv or photos ) Peaky Blinders jumps out at me.

Exactly the Ajax game meant nothing as did the Villa match.

Pre season loss to a Premier League team, cannot understand how DC is still in a job this morning!

Ritual wrist slashing by many on here after pre-season friendlies.
They are a means of getting fit. That’s all that matters.
I’ll look at where we are come October time before I hit the panic button.

That’s not “exactly” what he’s saying though?

We’ve played Villa the last three years and not been dicked like that. Granted they were probably weaker then but I’d still like to think our first team could put up more of a fight against them than being 4-1 down at half time. That is the concerning bit.

They walked through us at half pace.

In terms of the long term no it doesn’t mean anything. But it does in terms of how ready we are for the start of the season.

It was embarrassing. There is no dressing it up.

We need all the different fans groups to get together, stop fighting amongst themselves, and start holding the club to account.Someone posted on here about one of the bars not working, after all that was said by the club about catering at fans meetings, its all just words, they’re laughing at fans groups.

Only two fan groups in disagreement, Sid, and I believe that is all settled now. Working Party meetings re-commence on August 5th, suggest submitting your concerns to the Trust or ISSA, both will be in attendance.

What happened to WSFC?

A vote will take place at the Working Party meeting on August 5th where the club, Trust, ISSA and DSA have the chance to accept or decline WSFC’s application to join these meetings.

I was just glad they stopped the scoring at 5, in the first half they really could have score 7 or 8. The gulf was huge, Jota and Grealish were having an absolute laugh, dont think Pring and Sadler got with even a breath of Jota all night . Given the strength of the opposition its hard to judge, as its also the first time i have seen us play with this new side.

Same observations as most, midfield works hard and will be solid enough, but not much in way of flair or creativity there, i would imagine this eases as we play weaker opposition, as our wing backs wont be totally outclassed.

I like Adebayo, unit. But will he score enough? Debatable. Same as Gordon for me. 100% we need another option. I Suspect Ferrier will be in the squad next Saturday though.

Liam Roberts - Its gone past a joke now, the lads clearly shot to bits.I wouldn’t abandon him yet but he there is no way he should be starting next week. Didn’t see enough of Rose for a comparison as Villa had eased off by then…

Weirdly, there were some positives considering we were pinged all over the park. We tried to play out from the back when we could, and they looked to break with some speed. Something i haven’t seen a Walsall side do in a long time is counter attack. Also, Villa picked us apart like they should, but when they started crossing balls into the box, we seemed to be in good shape. Adebayo also put Hourihane on his arse, which was amusing. James Clarke is going to be a fan favourite, solid CB with decent pace.

Im not that worried getting pumped by friendly defeats, but its clear we need a few more quality bodies in to be challenging at the top of the table, there will be a lot of pressure on our defence.

Jota was unreal. It was worth going just to watch him.

More importantly how are the “bogs” looking😁

IMO in the 1st half we had 3 centre backs doing the job of 2, and 3 midfielders doing the job of 2.

We were supposed to be playing 3-5-2, but ended up playing 5-3-2 because Villa were so dominant down their right (our left). Pring couldn’t get forward because he was always two on one.
2nd half we started with 4-4-2 with Cockerill-Mollet at LB and Pring left side midfield, and we stopped Villa but who provided the width on the right? Guthrie, Kinsella, and Sinclair were all played down the middle.

If we play 3-5-2 then the full backs have to provide the width. If we play 4-4-2 then we have to sacrifice either Kinsella or Guthrie.

Not a great evening.

Have you seen the new wallpaper put up in the Bonser Suite last season? Straight from the local 1970’s shop I’d have thought.

The money is best kept away from them if that’s how they spend it.

and exactly how many times in the past 3 years were they a premiership side? How many times did they have a £22 million striker? How many times had they just spent £100 million strengthening their side?
Get real. we’re not going to face anything like that in league 2.
