Good move from the club in my opinion. Regardless of the mess we’ve managed to find ourselves in. We still amazingly have another chance to get out of this league.
Would be a big advantage to be attacking home fans each half. Even if it’s a couple hundred it could help. And let’s face it, we need all the help we can get at the moment
Hopefully they’ll let me move my season ticket into that stand for the game. None of this Sadler out crap. Now isn’t the time, they aren’t gonna sack him now so let’s just see where these next two games take us.
let’s just put all that aside and give them one more home push before Crewe! Keep the faith Saddlers.
Let’s hope those that go in the away section make some noise to back the Saddlers
Many maybe infrequent visitors tbh with the faithful already ticket holders for this game
I hate it when we get turned around, we ought to be shoving clubs that bring hardly any supporters up the corners. It’s our ground so we should use whatever is at our disposal.
Id like them to do this for every game, stick the away fans down the side - there will be logistical/policing issues but they can be overcome. Saying that apart from when the home end was being redeveloped I cant recall there ever being many home fans in this end when its been open apart from maybe when it was split half half for the Oldham game years ago.
Its funny how WMP are never faced with logistical issues with 40k at Villa Park yet we have to close swathes of the ground. Port Vale could have brought another 400 or so .this year yet we turn them away. 4000 fire lighting Parisians turn up at VP and have a couple of columns of seats in between them and the home fans.
I remember a few times when Hibbitt was manager they used that for home supporters, I think Choice Personnel gave some tickets away for it. Then there was one night game when Merson was manager in League 1, can’t remember who it was against, I went with my Dad. I just remember the fans going mad at Merson to bring Fryatt on as he was on the bench.
Also, our George’s first Walsall game I took him in there v Fleetwood in the FA Cup about 2015. No idea why we were in that end for any of those games now. I think it was some kind of kid for a quid thing v Fleetwood. Think the end was almost full for that one, but not the others.
Yeah I dont know if in the 90s they used to open it now and again like you say they used to do kids for a quid sometimes, i’ve certainly sat in there before and not just when the home end was shut.
It feels like there is an acceptance we will still be in League 2 there! Don’t worry I am on the same page.
I think the biggest problem if we were by some miracle to go up. With larger away followings they don’t want away fans too close to the home end after what happened v Sheff Wednesday and to a lesser extent against Wolves.
Plus as we are already discussing, how many would go in there on a regular basis? I suppose they could do cheaper season tickets or something like that.
Maybe away fans in the current away end is cheaper to police as they’re well out the way and would cost more than it would gain.
Yeah the last point is a good one, Villa did the same when they moved away fans out of the north stand and into the side I believe, offered dirt cheap STs in the lower north and filled it, obviously we’re comparing different things with their fanbase.
Maybe if they offered an adult and kid season ticket for £200 or something like that, it might get a decent take up. I suppose the only problem with that is it would just be taking people away from other areas of the ground.
I mean it’s not my job I’m just making stuff up but surely someone has the know how to come up with something good. It could potentially be a way of increasing our fanbase.
yeah performances on the pitch bring in extra supporters more than pricing really, we’d need to run an offer alongside doing well on the pitch because otherwise we only have a finite fan base to a certain extent and they’d just move from the lower to the away end maybe i dunno, they should try these things though.
Think you’ve hit the proverbial nail on the head there though the idea is laudable. With so much still at stake despite our wretched recent run and with only a few hundred likely to take up the offer for Saturday I’m not sure how many we would get for a ‘normal’ matchday particularly at L2 level, just thins out some of the audience around the rest of the arena.
I can confirm this. Did mine earlier over the phone. Ticket office staff brilliant as always.
Blazing has come up with some good suggestions going forward, but ultimately the club need to come up with some good ideas. I get that bigger clubs will need a bigger allocation, so it could be tricky to have it as a permanent thing.
For me, I haven’t enjoyed the match day experience for a while in the lower. Decent view and decent people around me, but it really lacks any atmosphere. I’m so proud to come from Walsall and be a Walsall fan and love it when people I meet ask who I support so I can promote the Saddlers. I think it hurts me to see and hear us get out sung by the likes of 30 Fleetwood fans etc and have Harrogate fans taunt our lack of atmosphere.
Every away following to visit must think we are the quietest home fans ever. A lot of us give it a good go but the sound just doesn’t travel. I can’t remember how noise the old terrace made (pre upper) but I can guarantee it was a good old racquet.
As much as I think the upper looks pretty and has a good view/ great facilities etc. I wish it was the old terrace.
I’m convinced we give away teams a leg up by having a loud away end and our ‘singers’ being spread across a massive 2 tier stand. I’m not saying that’s an excuse for poor performances, but inadequate referees will easily be swayed, and when it’s 50/50 and there’s a decision down the away end, they will most likely get the call not us.
As someone else mentioned, Villa moved the north stand, wolves the worst away end ever. Baggies have their vocal fans next to the away end. Just to name a few locals.
Jamma had also had a shocking record at winning the toss, so at least it’s a win win for him on Saturday
I know people get comfortable with their seat and who they sit with. But I’d encourage as many as possible to get in there on Saturday! Maybe we can be the difference in getting accys last min handball equaliser overturned
I’ve been to I think 15 away games this season and our home support is better than most in my opinion. I missed Bradford to be fair, but Port Vale and Nott’s County were embarrassingly bad. I can’t remember if it was Chesterfield or Nott’s now who had a drum but no fans joined in and sang anything.
Not to say we can’t improve, but when there is a decent away following I think the atmosphere is more than decent as it is.
