Battle stations: Fans focus meeting confirmed

Oldham look like the outlier in there, but at the start of the stats,it looks like they were near to peaking.

“In June 1982, the club appointed Joe Royle as manager and a new era was underway. Royle’s side finished 7th in his first season in charge, but fell to 19th in his second. In the 1986–87 season, Oldham narrowly missed promotion to the First Division finishing three points behind Portsmouth and losing in the inaugural playoffs to Leeds United, when previous seasons would have seen them automatically promoted.”

Thanks Wiltshire

They include away fans. Based on average attendance. It would be good to distil out the home fans but I don’t have those figures.

Very interesting info.

I thought Rotherham and Donny had both significantly improved their numbers after relocating to shiny new stadia.

I do think we’re the only club who lost fans when we moved to a new home in 1990. Even factoring in relegation to Div 4 it’s poor.

Really good stats there - very interesting to have facts.

I find that in business it’s very difficult to argue with facts and accurate stats… takes the emotion out of the other party and confronts reality…

Just what we need

This is what I’ve been trying to ask: What did Bonser actually do in the early 90s, which made his contribution so vital?

It’s not necessarily a rhetorical question. I’d love to know what made his presence then so necessary to our survival.

This is a great source for that information. Shows all average attendances and league positions, including national ranking of each.

What happened at the the end of 1968 that caused our gates to halve and never really recover?

Good question. We don’t seem to have dropped nearly as far in the list-51st to 57th. Maybe it was the end of the World Cup boom.
Edit I was looking at the wrong list. We dropped more than that ,to 69th So I don’t know.

Villas attendance went up by 5000 betweeen 68 and 69

Is it possible to record or live stream the meeting?

He bought the shares in the club off Davenmanor for a quid and the stadium off Denglen for £249,999 (ono). Allegedly nobody else wanted in, and the club was on its knees (copyright J Bonser). Three years later he bought the land off Severn Trent. Again, nobody else would invest except Jeff (copyright J Bonser).

We still owe him over £1 million don’t forget. I think ,but the accounts will show it, that most of that was lent to the Club in the early days of Bescot when we were in great trouble.

Do you know what the debts were at this stage.?Were there creditors actually moving in?

Indeed, and given the millions he has milked from the club, he could write off this debt if we was the benefactor he claims to be. Unlike the rent issue, there would be no legal/tax implications.

I wont be able to attend as I need to support my missus who is being exhausted by our 12 month old bundle of joy while I am out working all day.

But just in case Bonser does turn up; could I suggest he use this as his theme tune:-

Yes and when the times comes for him to sell it will be interesting to see what happens to that debt. If he wants a decent legacy then he should forego repayment as he takes his money for the freehold.

Why wait until then?
I will have a crafty tenner with you WalsallOne that those loans will be repaid long before the club is sold . In fact, we both will most likely be dead by that point .

Great work. The only issue I have with comparing attendances from our division 1 stretch from 2001-2004, as the comparison would not be valid as our attendances would be propped up by higher away attendances than those in division 2.

Not sure how this can be solved, but in that stretch the statistics aren’t valid. Which is unfortunate, because if we could compare home attendances only it would be clear to see if the town responded to our on field success.

I think the repayment of the loans is his exit strategy. Over the past few years the debt to him has been reduced and the penny pinching we are seeing in facilities and the team are evidence this is the plan to re pay himself before disappearing and cashing in his pension.
Number one fan my arse.

Also, when the debts are paid off surely that makes the club worth more… and he can sell his 2/3 of the club for more. Another payday!!
