Bolton Wanderers (H) F A Cup 1st round, Nov 2nd 3pm

Just shy of 50 now myself and I admit that the past decade has been dire. It came close to driving me off tbh and last season was typical and I genuinely felt Sadler was clueless as a manager.

Nice to have been so wrong

That’s very true. A couple of years ago I used to turn up at 2.55pm now I leave the house at 1230 for the half hour drive with the wife asking me why I’m leaving this early every week - I don’t spend a fortune as I’m driving but the odd pint or a Coke, something to eat and browse in the club shop it’s just a good place to be around at the moment.

Was saying this to the wife yesterday. We bought tickets and probably had 4 pints between us, plus food and snacks. Two years ago, I’d have turned up and maybe bought a Pepsi at best.

Wholeheartedly agree and we’ve got to spread the gospel to the naysayers. I’ll be honest I was still slightly disappointed with the audience yesterday, given both how good we have been (results and entertaining) and how cheap the ticket prices were in what looked on paper a really cracking tie against a top L1 side. We know they are out there because if we drew Wolverhampton or The Villa if we got to Round 3 we’d be able to sell out and have fans who couldn’t get tickets.

There really is something special going on, and we’ve been starved of success for so long I want everyone getting down there and giving Sadler and the boys the support they richly deserve.

Sure it will be a topic of conversation in this afternoon’s debrief.

Bolton had to agree to it too (I believe) , so well done both clubs

Nope. Recall when we beat them during lockdown he did nothing but whinge about how physical we were and blame the ref.

Hard to beat the view and the noise and the facilities in the Middle Tier imo.
Used to sit in the old main stand and the view and atmosphere are nowhere near as good.

What a whinging idiot. What game was he watching then?
Referee gave them more than he gave us overall.
Accuses us of being big and physical etc. Ridiculous. He should play Accrington.
Can’t bring himself to say we were the best team. Just sour grapes.
Hope the real Bolton fans give him stick.

That was 3 years ago :grinning:

I started going to watch the saddlers as an eight year old with my dad, at that point in time it seemed magical.
It was also just a couple of seasons before we got to the second division (as it was called in those days).
I would enjoy many seasons of seeing us do well and far too many awful ones. There’s absolutely no argument that the last few years have been horrible although for me personally it’s never entered my head to stop going.
To see this team it’s togetherness and never say die attitude is very infectious.
I’m trying not to get carried away because there’s such a long way to go this season but I honestly can’t see anything other than a great outcome this year.
I’m fully aware of what’s happening to Gillingham but Sadler seems brilliant with his man management and I truly think we have something very special in Mat Sadler.

A great description - that’s how I’ve felt.

Waiting for disaster.

Case in point was yesterday / saw it had gone 0-1 and thought to myself ‘here we go again’ - and then bang! Surprised me yet again.

We’m going up

Easy to forget it was only a month ago we were dicked at home by Fleetwood. The excellent recovery from that result has gone a long way to convincing me we’re promotion challengers.

Could have quite easily rang the changes after that game, which many thought should have been done. But he stated after Chesterfield that the players deserved respect for what they’d done in the previous games.

Yesterday was game 19 of the season and we’ve genuinely been very good for 17 and a half of them.

Such a young side too that have played against five teams from a higher division this season and looked the better side in all five.

Surely this is the year

The chants of “he’s gonna cry in a minute” have never felt more out of place than they did yesterday from their fans.Every clubs fans sing it at some point and it’s primarily used for more light hearted and petty situations than those Williams found himself in at that precise moment.Very distasteful indeed.

I thought the free kick went up and down over the wall. Very well taken. Can’t fault Simkin for that IMO

I was right behind it, felt he was a little too far over the one side because he was still sorting out the wall, which wasn’t in the position he wanted because there was a massive gap on the left side of it for a left footer to put it around the wall.

He was still sorting the wall when the ref blew his whistle, which meant he had to quickly rush across his line.

More comments from the Bolton manager.
Apparently they should have been “out of sight” had they taken their first half chances.

We could’ve been out of sight in the first half, if we had taken our chances too.

One thing I forgot to mention that made me chuckle yesterday.

As Simkin took the free kick that lead to our equaliser, they did the oooooh your **** arrrrggggh, and before they had finished doing it the ball was in the net :grinning:
