I have actually been in the “I dont get the Stirk hype” camp for a while, but he was impressive yesterday for me. I dont see Comley starting ahead of him when he is fit to be honest.
He is much better with the ball between both boxes than Kinsella ever would be.
Or Comley for that matter. Maybe Comley is better at breaking up play, I’m not sure about that but Stirk always looks to get us moving forward quickly, something we lacked last season I think. The fact Jellis does enough running, pressing, harassing, tackling to do the job of two players helps a lot. I’m a big fan of Jellis already, cracking player at our level.
Stirk been amongst our best players so far this season imo . Any doubt about him is bizarre. He starts over Comley and shouldn’t be moved position like he was last season.
One of my biggest fears going into this season was where he seen McEntee in this team, he seen the light there so I’m hoping the same will apply here. Plus Comley will be coming back from a fairly long spell out, managing him back into a winning team would have to be done gradually, unless he comes back a whole level above what we’ve already seen from him, which I doubt, then I think he’ll be used as a useful sub to see games out.
In my opinion, they both played a part in last season’s failure.
Sadler has brought in better players this season in other positions, and he deserves praise for the effect that is having, but the job is not yet done.
I don’t remember us failing last season tbh. Thought we made decent progress compared to the last few seasons.
Or did I miss the bit where the club made a statement of their expectation for the season?
And there I profoundly disagree. Last season was a total failure. Not only did we finish out of the play-off places, but our quality of play was often very poor. The club needed to improve the squad, and I am very pleased with the way the new players have started.
Failure probably isn’t the right phrase, but it was certainly a missed opportunity.
Regardless, Stirk playing that role in the center has improved our attacking play in my opinion. He looks forward, plays between the lines and looks to get moves started quickly. I wouldn’t want to see us revert to how we played last season for any amount of time. We have better players available in midfield also.
It might be failure in the eyes of some fans, but I don’t think the club would agree. If play offs / promotion was the expecting (rather than ambition) then they surely would not have appointed a rookie manager and signed the squad that they did.
I see it as a 2-3 year timescale.
Talk of stirk v Comley, but is there a chance Hall might play instead of both if he gets up to speed and returns to the player I’ve heard Blues fans tell us he is or is he more competition for Lakin/Earing?
I don’t really want to argue about it but the Club said Sadler was the best man that applied for the job. So being a rookie shouldn’t really come into it.
I assume they signed the squad they did because it was the best they could manage with the money they were willing to make available.
There was a good opportunity to make the playoffs last season, we faded badly but I do like the way we have addressed weaknesses from last season. No guarantees of course but I’d be surprised if we weren’t there or there abouts this time, I do think a 10th place finish would be a failure this time.
I think Stirk has benefited from having Jellis on the right side. He’s a terrier and means the centre midfield aren’t as exposed as they were last season. Jellis wins a fair few tackles that TK didn’t taking the pressure off Stirk and allowing him to do his job. Last season Stirk Comley were having to do 2 or 3 jobs.
Please not Stirkley again it’s one or the other for me now.We have better options than resorting to that negative idea again and lets not play one upfront against Salford and resort to hoofing it like we did at MK dons we need to find a way to win away more regularly our home form is good
