Brian Dutton

It’s the whole not in touch with reality comment that grinds my gears…

Clearly he can’t see what’s going on around him.

I was praising the post from SID defending LP and my comment was aimed at people saying that his takeover had been a “disaster”. It might be but in the circumstances with COVID it is too early to judge in my opinion. Walsall FC has been hit harder than most because a good proportion of our income has been hit with nothing going on in the hospitality industry. I doubt very much the package of aid from the Premier League covers losses from the commercial side of the business.

Hence my jovial yet barbed reply

So we have to accept the reality of being 16th in League Two? Get ■■■■■■. No chance, I will not accept it.

It’s a bit of tough ■■■■ then isn’t it because my daughter supports Walsall because I do but I would put money on us not being higher than league one when her great grandchildren are watching us that’s if we are here at all!

But again I can’t have that, even with our so called extra income streams we are still miles off.

It’s all Completely flawed.

Yes I am an active Christian and it gives me a set of values by which I try to live my life. I don’t think that prevents me from entering a debate on our football club!

What"cannot you have"? I am not aware I have stopped you expressing your opinion.

Sorry that was aimed at your comment about the extra income streams, those extra income streams which have neve offered a penny to the playing side.

Well I don’t think you are right on that but the accounts being what they are make it difficult to ascertain the full facts!! LP seemed be saying in one of his interviews they were a factor.

That is my understanding - the whole shooting match. I think that Cully knows the ins and outs and has posted on this previously.

No thanks Sid.

I think its fair to compare him to how other chairman / clubs are getting on.

He’s the one talking top 7 and promotion.

He like every other chairman has had to deal with difficulties. Can’t throw Bonser in there as a reason because we’re not the only club with a landlord - and other clubs won’t have had other income streams like we have either.

He has failed to put a robust fit for purpose footballing structure in place. This current squad and our journey to non league football is a testament to this. This last point is a fact and cannot be argued with. This side of the Club has gone backwards under his tenure.

Of course 10 years later and Bonser (or rather his pension fund) is approaching getting that £5million… only difference being he via “it” still owns the freehold!!
Where Bonser and Walsall FC is concerned there’s only ever one winner.

Totally agree, but unfortunately we don’t have 10 games. Any point this week from Exeter or Cambridge will be a bonus, which makes Barrow a must win. I don’t think the jury can wait that long. Tough world, tough decision.

When Dutton came in it sounded as though he had a clear idea of how he wanted to play, the most obvious thing we were lacking under DC. But its now absolutely abundantly clear that other than some vague notion of passing from the back that he doesn’t. Two and three formation changes per game is ludicrous, as has been some of the players selections and deployments.
The games have been a bit easier on the eye, but that’s comparing to the dross served up under DC. For me the penny dropped on Tuesday night when he changed things at half-time for no reason, and then came out and said the second half was better than the first when it was as plain as day worse. Had enough of “emporer’s clothes” selection/tactics/analysis to last me a lifetime after the last 18 months. For me I just want to see some basis establlished, or even attempt to be established, that we can try and build something on and buy into as fans.
I’m really dissapointed and in fact quite annoyed that he doesn’t seem to be likely to deliver this after just 4 games.

Thank you. That was never going to happen then. Apart from the scandalous, although entirely legal, processes which enabled the club and ground to become separated although owned by one entity, I don’t know what has been worse for us over the years, the financial drain of paying rent or the unwillingness of our landlord - previous owner, to allow others who might have been interested to invest in the club in a substantial way.
As you infer, who knows what might have come to light.

I must admit I don’t know who Geoff Dance is Belph, let alone that he’d tried to buy the club. It doesn’t surprise me though that JB didn’t want to sell, not while there was still money to screw out of the club.

Yeah but he has been down the training ground (well before it was condemned) and watched the squad. Great togetherness and expects them to challenge

Interesting wrinkle for next year - I work for HomeServe and this is our final season on the original shirt sponsorship contract, which I know for a fact is a pretty hefty sum of money for the club. I’m not privvy to details on extension, but given HomeServe signed up when we were at the top half of the division above I can’t see the club getting the same kind of cash to sponsor a shirt now our stock has dropped so significantly.

Am I being naive to assume that less sponsorship income will mean less playing budget? By which case, Dutton (should he get the job) or A.N. Other manager will have a real task on their hands potentially, given we need a brand new squad!

No you are not being naive. If income drops then expenditure must drop too unless someone is willing to lend the Club money to overcome the losses. We are living through a very difficult time.
