Yes that’s the kind of 11 we need
Sadler talks about the supporters, those there last night and in general in the longer 5 minute interview. https://tinyurl.com/5daphcbx
Sounds like your being a bit bitter
One of the things that has typified our defensive lapses in the last half dozen games is: our inability to clear our lines, missed tackles and not winning the second balls. At times it has been panic stations and it was on display again last night.
As a supporter, I will support the team as a whole, preferring to single those who I think have excelled, rather than have a go. But I have to say, that for me, McEntee has gone backwards - he wouldn’t be in my eleven. Neither would Comley.
With 10 games to go, it was an absolutely stupid time to drop your goal keeper! I mean what was the point in that.
And why did Stirk and Lakin not get that last 20 mins?
Not much i’d say differently to that other than being home half an hour earlier. Strangely took me back through the Dartford tunnel, M11 and A14, quicker than the 4.5 hours it took to get there anyway.
His changes made little or no sense to me. Hornby deserves a chance, but with the defence unsettled for several games now, I thought it was the wrong time to bring him in. In fact I assumed Simkin was not feeling , but he didn’t mention anything in the post match interview.
He brings Wheatley onto the bench, but Amanchi was obviously the sub for injuries to the forwards.
Apart from Adomah, the other subs just dropped down to the bench for a breather.
Sadler just doesn’t inspire confidence, and there’s a lack of clear thinking in my view. But then I’m but a mere fan, so what would I know?
It took over four hours to get there courtesy of the M25 and it was bloody cold down there too so I probably wasn’t in the best of moods even before kick off. The first half for me was abysmal mainly because we keep faffing about instead of getting the ball clear and even when we did we just passed it to a Bromley player. In fairness we did improve second half and did battle our way level twice during the game against a side that break quickly and played some decent football. I was surprised how easily they go down considering they are a big physical side but I suppose that’s the modern game. The referee was ok but I don’t understand when our player (Gordon I think) was deliberately shoved into the dugout and their player got away with it but he picked up on jamma for far less.
All in all it’s a point on the road and with a rest period now who knows what positive impact that might have.
The one thing I fail to understand is why MS doesn’t make substitutions because to me (and I’m no expert) there were players on the pitch last night who looked absolutely done in.
Mirror a lot of comments on here but to single out MS is just wrong imho. Yes current form is more than worrying but a lot we’re predicting mid table with a hopeful play off push so 3 points clear with 9 to go I think we need to cut him some slack and lay off tbh
Anyway we also have a management team with promotion experience with Cambridge and Byfield involved with Crawley even as caretaker at some point. Not to mention ROK
So a I appreciate he leads the group I feel it’s unfair to single him as some but not all have
I totally agree that Comley should not be in the side. Last night he was so poor. Does not give any attacking threat and his poor header straight to their player lead to the second goal. He was also at fault for the first as he should of been quicker to block Thompsons strike.
Agreed.
Matt never pushed their player, he flicked the ball on with a header and wasn’t even looking at the player, their players’ momentum is what put him into the boards.
Very weird decision.
Did you go to St Chad’s College in Wolverhampton, FSB? I did and remember both David Rushbury and Gerry O’Hara. I was a bit younger, but I played for St Chads and won a few trophies! I saw David Rushbury playing for Sheffield Wednesday at Fellows Park - decent player. Unfortunately, Gerry O’H didn’t quite make it at the Wolves!
I thought Matt was booked for talking to the referee not any perceived foul. I think he pointing out to the referee as Captain that their players were making a lot of the incident. The referee was surrounded by them which I thought was not allowed these days.
An excellent post
My satnav cleverly avoided the hold-up(s) on the M25 and instead sent me via the North circular and the Blackwall tunnel - and the London rush-hour! Over 5 hours in the end. By the time I’d parked it was gone 7:30 before I got into the ground. Coming from Telford so an extra 30 minutes or so on my journey than those starting from Walsall but still a bit of a trek - took longer than getting to Carlisle last week!
A bit quicker on the way back as I ignored it’s entreaty that the M25 clockwise was shut (a few long stretches of road works but it was still open) and the signs that the M40 exit junction was shut (it wasn’t) and back home by 2am. Did stop on the way for a comfort break at Beaconsfield services - and bumped into Jamie Jellis! I passed the team coach shortly after so I assume they’d dropped him off as he lives down that way - but which way did they go to have got there around the same time I did when I must have had at least a 30 minute start on them leaving the ground?
I agree about the comments on Comley his 1st thought his a backwards pass very rare it’s a forward pass, not for me any more shouldn’t be in the sqaud
Your last sentence Rob is spot on and nicely covers all of us here I’d say.
That was a long day yesterday but I really enjoyed it.
In isolation that was a great result last night, especially having to come from behind twice. The problem is we have lost our last two home games. Draws away are fine if you are winning at home. We really need to find a win very soon now.
A few of my thoughts.
I’d rather Simkin was back in goal. Yes I have had a few concerns about him over the season, but he is just far more confident than Hornby. No fault for the goals from Hornby, but he didn’t come for anything all night, and punched or flapped at most things. Looked very nervy and worrying.
Comley, I don’t think he is good enough. I can accept he is going to play the ball safe every time, but the game goes on around him too much for my liking.
The good. Amantchi showed more promise, and not just because of his excellent goal. He wasn’t outstanding or anything but was a threat at least.
The second goal had flashbacks of earlier in the season. Great link up between Jellis and Barrett. Barrett out now for two games, which some see as a positive. I don’t, I’d rather have him available; he just should have been given a few breaks over the past few months.
I hope the Harrison injury isn’t too serious, I think we will need him.
We have obviously missed Lowe, but the biggest problem for us is how many we are conceding now. A lot of the goals follow very similar patterns, too. Sort that out and we have a great chance. If we need to score 3 most games to win, then unfortunately we are going to miss out. That is how I see it at this moment in time.
The return journey was definitely easier although I was tired by the time I got back home.
I used the M40/M25 both ways, the mistake I made was setting off at a time that got me to London just in time for the rush hour. At least we didn’t all have to travel back after a defeat.
We are still by far the highest goal scorers in the division (we don’t often fail to score - and we do keep making chances when we don’t put them away), but you are right that it is the GA column that is letting us down at the moment - at one point we had the lowest and Simkin was leading the golden glove chart for most clean sheets. However, it’s currently only the same as Doncaster’s so they’re no better - and don’t score as many.
I’ll back us to keep scoring, so can we sort out the defensive frailties (which seem more systematic than the individual errors that used to plague us)?
