Will do!
That’s what I mean, about the league supporting clubs to be able to look after the pitches better.
Undersoil heating at every ground might be a bit pie in the sky, but plenty of clubs use heat lamps these days. Maybe the league should be looking to help clubs invest in these things, rather than “forcing” them to do so.
Two home games to come aswell so the ball is rolling nicely this season externally while the players are making it happen on the pitch on a weekly basis.
This had sold out hadn’t it? Imagine they’ll be a few returns for those unable to make the new midweek date so might pop down to this if the trains run late back to Brum.
Doubt it will be March as there’s usually a midweek round in the first week, then there’s the Cheltenham festival so obvious no go and then an international break and we’ve seen a couple of games postponed this season.
I think this will be played next month.
I’m advocating adequate pitch protection, not suggesting that all clubs install under soil heating. There are alternatives out there, as El_Nombre suggests.
In simple ‘return on investment’ terms - installing pitch heating systems simply doesn’t stack up for the vast majority of clubs.
The obvious question is ‘how many games does an average club lose to a frozen pitch every season??’ One, maybe 2 if they are very unlucky???
Even if it was a higher number, the H&S brigade would have games stopped due to ice and slippy surfaces on approaches to grounds so the pitch is only part of the equation these days…
Appreciate it was storm conditions (not ice and snow) but the recent Everton v Liverpool game was postponed due to safety concerns for travel to the ground in and generally, around ‘The North West’ of England and North Wales so nowt to do with the ground or pitch itself….
That’s the pub i use when me and my mates go to the Cheltenham festival. Cracking full english and the Guinness isn’t bad either
Hednesford have got their game on using frost covers
Gensanx will be pleased!
So far, ours is the only game off in the top 4 divisions.
Maybe more will follow?
Actually think they may have cocked up, the frost is not all that bad.
Poor to not get the game on today, but still I think it does us a favour.
Alfretons game has been called off, I’d have been fuming if they’d played after our game was cancelled.
We have to do all we can to get next weekends game on. Forecast is poor and when you take in to account our problematic away end we can’t just put the covers down and cross our fingers. Rent some heat blowers
If the attendance is 1000 less for a rearranged game, we lose I dunno c£20k+ I know we have covers that protect down to a couple of degrees below zero but surely it only takes a game or two to be called off to buy something more substantial with some blowers underneath
Even more so now with the midweek games available on Sky+ / dodgy boxes.
Midweek game attendances are way down, particularly if their is a home game either side of them.
Well as we had a non-refundable BnB for tonight and a plan set after the 12.30 KO I’ve arrived in Cheltenham and not sure what all the fuss has been about.
Few frost covers and even some metal barrels to deal with the problem of the away end goal mouth would’ve seen this game on. Having read Cheltenham fans thoughts a squad illness, some loanees returning and I’d suspect the form were in have meant they’ve done the bare minimum.
I’m of course bias in this case but never been one to see a reschedule as a good thing. You rarely come out the following game all guns blazing after an unscheduled rest. The prep will have already been done and it was a chance for more of the squad to get minutes, how else do we keep competition healthy if players like Evan Weir don’t get a game? More to the point we were due a week off after today.
Weekends without football don’t feel right, especially when you’ve spent a few bob! Anyway have a great weekend chaps. 9 points clear and 2 games in hand you say?
Says on the BBC report they put the frost covers down on Thursday morning and the hardest frost we’ve had this week was Wednesday night.
Doesnt sound like they wanted it on.
The longer it goes on that we are the ONLY game off in England in the top 4 leagues the more the conspiracy theorists amongst us will have a field day
I read they had a sickness bug in the camp, but again conspiracy.
I genuinely think it does us a favour though, Flynn would have had them fired up and at it against us. And with tired legs injuries could have been an issue.
Also I don’t know why they can’t put aside the following day as a potential reserve day if a game gets postponed. It works perfectly fine in cricket. Neither us or Cheltenham are playing midweek.
