Chesterfield (A) - League & playoff away leg

What a fantastic atmosphere and a delightful game to watch with our loyal supporters.
Really buzzing for the whole trip home after the game.
Woke up this morning thought I would read the match thread on here.
What a negative load of drivel. I’m glad you lot couldn’t get match tickets.
We were all singing loud and proud throughout the game.
I will take a sabatical from this site now until after wembley.
I know which game I saw yesterday and it’s not the same one the stay at homes were watching.
Bye everyone!

I was at home and watched the same game. I agree some of the comments especially on the first half were odd but most comments were fully supportive. I have noticed however that one or two regulars haven’t said a word!

Agree - there are some notable absentees from the post-game contributions..

For me, yesterday was a totally professional performance that any clubs supporters would have been proud of

Been saying for a while now a section of so called fans prefer when we lose, just so they can put the club down.

This game was between just about the best team on form vs the worst and the latter won. But all the away teams across the Leagues have done well and, if we have learned anything this year, it is not to count our chickens. I would even say the advantage we have is marginal.

But it was great to see the old fire return, the energy on display against a team that has been steamrollering everybody recently.

It’s impossible to see past the next game given what has happened this year but I’d love us to do it for the sake of Taylor Allen who was magnificent yesterday. He has had a traumatic year both in terms of his dad dying and the Walsall collapse. I suspect that for him, the play-offs mean a bit more than to the other players,

Ooh did yesterday really happen!

Interesting comments on Chesterfield message board, saying Sadler has worked out Cook & got the tactics right particularly in the midfield battle. Also Simkin getting pelters :winking_face_with_tongue:

Up the Saddlers!

Great post mate - spot on

Never even noticed that, after this first round of playoff games a home team hasn’t won one. That’s crazy and just shows it’s not job done yet.

I must admit I didn’t read through the whole match thread yesterday, as I sometimes do. Was there really much negativity? Bit odd if there was. I’d rather a loyal Walsall fan had a ticket than Milan Lalkovic, I didn’t realise he was a season ticket holder.

I stand by anything I said before, but I did crack a smile yesterday, just for you

Always amazed at how people can’t differentiate between the negative, critical few and the supportive many.

Thought the individual criticism of Dave was a bit over the top, but apart from that the comments were either supportive or just making observations about what was happening.

Agree - in fact, we’ve probably all done our bit in writing some of those, ‘negative, critical and supportive’ posts during this season! (Understandably in the circumstances!)

Sky had a camera behind the goal at the far end, and its view shows a slight deflection, not from the defender running out to block, but one on the edge of the six yard box. It actually diverted it inwards ,so might not have been crucial. Even so, it shows much more can happen from shots on target into a crowded box than from shots, like most of Stirk’s, either high ,wide or both.

Good performance, we showed everything that has been missing for the last 3 months … how bizarre!

I do think some of it is down to Simkin and Williams getting back up to speed after being dropped.

Make it 3 wins in 3 on Friday, and we Could have some real momentum for Wembley.

I’ve said this to my Chesterfield mates, the bloke always tells it how it is which is refreshing.

I woke up this morning and asked my lad if I’d dreamt it

Pretty much the perfect away performance. Sadler has, quite rightly to some extent, taken a lot of criticism over the past few months around our loss of form but he got it spot on yesterday and too get the group in a place to deliver that sort of performance at the most in-form team in the division in an absolute bearpit took some doing so full credit to him for that. Williams adds so much to our defence, he was like peak DD yesterday and Okagbue also was quite superb.

Some interesting posts on the Chesterfield forum, these two I thought summed up the game well:

Interesting to see their forum operates a lot like UTS, varying opinions ranging from one extreme to the other and everything in between, just as a forum should be.

Like this where a fan is critical of the club for missing an opportunity with a big gate.

It’s what makes football a unique world, that everyone can have an opinion.

Link below for anyone who wants to have a gander.
