Excellent team selection - with Ellis up front with Jamma (hope this develops into a regular partnership) - and use of substitutions was the key I feel.
Excellent game management though Jamma was really blowing through his arse for 15 minutes. Scares me because it risks the old boy getting injured.
Sadler was excellent with his changes yesterday, despite the terror which came from 5 games without a win, we held them comfortably
Don’t know how we survived without Gordon up front and McEntee in midfield
The big difference with the Gills game for me - reflected in the result!
You do realise that he’d have come on instead of Comely for Lakin, had Williams not had to go off injured?
And that he was probably only getting the start before because Lakin wasn’t fully on it, and therefore represented the better option.
I know you’ve been made to look very silly on this issue - and me (and pretty much the entire fanbase) very right on the McEntee in midfield debate…. But this is just waffle.
No.
Prior to this, as you’ve pointed out yourself McEntee was featuring in midfield as the 60min plus replacement option.
He only played from the start, when someone was ill or otherwise not match fit.
This was undoubtedly the plan yesterday, but didn’t happen as he is also on the bench as defensive cover as well and Williams got injured. Had that not have happened he’d have come on when Lakin was subbed.
Obvious really, try using your loaf and actually think about it without the irrational bias.
You do know this forum isn’t all about you
I believe there’s a greater power at work here .far greater than anyone on here. He hover’s over our rookie manager and when he see’s errors of selection he clobbers those players with an injury.therefore guiding him to correct decisions .its been going on all season .i think we’re witnessing a bit of Divine intervention.no coincidence he’s just got his own office now (prayer room ) can’t kid me .
Is it Brett Angell?
Wahhhhhh.
It’s ok to be wrong
Yes I see where your coming from, I was at Alvechurch pre season and there was talk of Harry Williams going out on loan to get game time follow his injury and as he was behind DD and the Priest ……. Boy hasn’t he grasped his opportunity with both hands
Slow and careful explanation.
Sadler’s preferred midfield 3is clearly Lakin Stirk and Jellis.
The preferred back 3 following injuries to Daniels, Farquarson, and McEntee became Okagbue, Williams and Allen.
Since his return from injury, McEntee has been mainly used as sub cover for both areas, more so since Daniels got injured again at Peterborough.
He has only really started in cup games but otherwise as I said he tends to be used as the 2nd half midfield swap. He has only been used as a starter when one of the first choice midfield 3 has been injured or unwell, or coming back from those.
So this is ehat happened yesterday, all3 fit McEntee as sub, but Williams was injured so he had to go into defence, meaning that Comely became the 2nd half midfield option.
If that’s too much for you to understand I can’t help you, it is however not "wrong ".
Tbf i was spitting rage at the defending and GK for their goal. but Simkin from then on never put a foot wrong even under pressure.
He seems to be a young keeper thats a bit old school, dont drop crosses and all that jazz but perhaps the shot stopping bit needs work. Second half was very us in protecting the goal, McEntee slotted in for Williams superbly.
Thought Dave was class as well, after half time. The best of him really, first half was a bit of the worst.
Does Skippy agree?
What are his thoughts on the last 2 results?
Don’t see what the issue is with McEntee in midfield. Seems a horses for courses pick. No different to when Dean Smith would stick Andy Butker up front at times.
Please stop being rational
What has any of that got to do with McEntee not being a very good no. 8?
Can’t see the issue with playing a centre half in midfield…. Think that playing a centre forward that hardly ever scores ahead of centre forwards that do, can be a good idea … criticising fans that think playing midfielders in midfield and picking centre forwards that score is worthy of criticism. There’s a pattern emerging here. How’s about this for thought, if we’d played Harrison and Lakin on Tuesday we would have stood a much better chance of beating Gillingham.
Moving away from this tedious debate….and unlike you I will be, I actually think signing Harrison to add to a pool of forwards potentially including Matt and Amantchi could offer some hope of making the step up to L1 if we do manage it, provided at least one more quality signing could be made to replace DJ and Flush.
