Chris Hussey Retires

Football League? You mean the Midland Combination League?

Is that not a better job if it meets his life circumstance? :man_facepalming:

Sorry Chris, you should’ve stayed on a one year deal not knowing whether you’ll be on a grand a week next year or nothing, or dropping into non league on 300 a week, with a mortgage, kids and a wife to support all because some fans dream of having your job.

Were none of things true before he signed for Walsall?

Was he forced to sign a 12 months deal?

Good to know so many Walsall fans are content with first team players actively seeking alternative employment opportunities during the season. Perhaps we could arrange a sponsorship deal with LinkedIn.

Didn’t see you predicting it. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’m content with a player making a decision that betters himself and his family, like I and anyone else would.

That’s fine.

But would you also then say we should avoid signing such ‘at risk’ players? Players clearly coming towards the end of their career.

Would you be content if a star player were to hand in a transfer request and down tools in Jan, because there were other clubs sniffing around?

Think Hussey gets an easier ride because he won’t be missed.

How is that even comparable. One has downed tools to force a move, the other has retired. The desperation for people to justify this overreaction is laughable.

He isn’t getting an easy ride though is he? He can’t retire without people crying. As a Walsall fan I’m actually embarrassed at how over the top some fans have been over this. I really hope he doesn’t read this site. Sick of players having a shit opinion of us.

Yes, I think we should avoid those type of signings.

Yes. I think that’s the only sensible way forward.

Well the suggestion from most who support his retirement is that he could not be forced to continue, as his head would not be in it, ergo - downing of tools.

It’s also directly comparable, as said player would potentially be looking to better their financial future, improve their family life, and it would be an opportunity that would have come through at short notice, and may not be available again.

Look, I’m not that fussed about him retiring, in the games I saw of him he was crap, but I do get what people feel about the timing leaving us short outside of the transfer window, also, he WILL have known about this opportunity before the day he accepted the job, he most probably applied for it weeks in advance.

My point also is that people are fine/supportive about it because he wasn’t very good, and conversely I think you’d find the majority of fans would support a player who had given us sterling service for a couple of years and done the same.

Extremely Dull Ideas would be more suitable

Bloke gets a job at the Professional Football Association, by being an unprofessional footballer! :grinning:

Equating “downing tools” with “his head wouldn’t be in it” demonstrates a lack of understanding of the importance of being mentally ready to play and what it takes to actually be a professional elite footballer (which anyone who plays in the top 4 leagues clearly is).

Pretty much anyone can physically train to the level of a professional footballer, if they really want to. There may well be many with similar physical skills as well - and we can all point to gifted players at Walsall who should have made it, but never did - but the difference between those who do make it and those who don’t is their ability to be mentally bang on, both in their training and, in particular, on match day. It takes HUGE commitment, at the cost of many things such as family life, time with kids, time with friends etc. Thus there is a whole world of difference between someone who consciously makes a decision to down tools and someone who has doubts in his mind about whether he has made the right choice for both himself and his family and thus loses that extra 1% which is necessary to be able to play at our level.

I hope that the PFA are bracing themselves for him potentially “transferring” to take up one of the new NHS EDI jobs in the January window. Got to be more scope for promotion there. If only he’d waited a bit longer, as three-monthly job hopping would not be a good look.

No no no. He’s retired and moved on. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. The over analysis and overreaction to a simple every day thing is embarrassing.

I’m not interested in this anymore. People need to get a life
