Colchester (H) - League Two - Sat 28 September, 12.30pm

Sorry, I don’t quite understand. Are you saying there are no disabled spaces in the away stand sponsored by B.A.T., but there are disabled spaces in the Experienced Energy Solutions stand?

Or decide to move them to a club likely to buy them further up the leagues.

Glad you bought this up.When they are
there the kids place is shut.So why not put them on the opposite side of pitch.
Or is this to obvious.

Spot on. And it’s right. Asking your disabled supporters to suffer two types of segregation is demeaning.

So our away end is effectively an away corner now and it envelopes the visiting team’s disabled fans.

Only thing with doing it like yesterday is that we won’t be taking any money in the away bar.

Because they tried that and due to the dug outs etc meaning that the main stand home end isn’t that accessible from seats the other side of the half way line, the toilets in the main stand at the traditional away end up having to be shared in the corner (plus there isn’t as much room due to corporate seats, press etc) leading to confrontations, which happened last season

Interesting. Thank you.

Sounds like a good excuse to knock down the away stand sponsored by B.A.T and replace it with one that has the requisite facilities.

So behind the goal is now only used for clubs that bring too many to fit in the corner?

We might have to abandon the family stand if that’s the case. The crappy acoustics in the stadium mean you can hardly hear the Walsall singers behind the goal. It felt more like being in the away end noise-wise.

Yes, I think so.

Our away end hasn’t been fit for purpose for a while. The disabled situation a part of that. If we’re going to sustain third division football it would help if we had a bigger and better equipped away end. Wouldn’t cost an absolute fortune either.

Would then make it clear once and for all that the family stand is a home stand. All of it.

Not really a good idea when the stewards can’t keep them in there own end , some how one was aloud to sneak thru into the family stand .give them the corner of the away end instead ,can’t see the logic.

Yeah I actually don’t see any difference cost wise between sticking them in the corner behind the goal or in the corner of the side stand, still need stewarding, separate turnstyle etc and use the toilets and refreshment kiosk, but means that issues which you speak about don’t happen.

If they do that then they should open behind the goal to home fans if the away following is small.

Funnily enough, my son said this and that he could only hear the kids running up and down the steps screaming.
The thing that needs addressing in the family stand is the tannoy announcements as they just sound like blah, blah, blah. There is no understanding of what is being said and could be dangerous in an emergency situation.

It’s been like it ever since they built the big stand behind the goal. If you’re sat on the halfway line in the family stand, 10 away fans singing sounds louder than the lower tier. All the noise from that stand just goes up and out of the stadium. The difference is even more stark when you actually put away fans in the family stand.

It’s not quiet when more sing, the reality is there is one small block of fans that sing (same number as away games) and that’s been proven over many years of big games and many singing at certain times.

It’s a myth, to improve atmosphere (it does get very loud behind the goal) you need more than one block of fans making noise, when middle tier and the whole of lower get into its fine.

How else do you explain amazing atmospheres around the world without any roofing or crowd noise in streets / fields.

We could shout through traffic cones I suppose.

I won’t dispute anything you’ve said, but from my personal observations the low roof definitely makes a difference. The away end sounds way louder but you can literally see it’s only a handful of people singing.

Oppo managers and players are opting to swap us around for a reason. The noise coming off the home end onto the pitch is just fine. When we are all up for it it’s as good as anywhere in our league.

Also mentioned on The Blues Rock Cafe forum, Gills fans saying basically the same, happened to them on Saturday I do believe, not the first time…

Looking like it’s becoming a thing. Need to start practicing the coin toss and making sure we know how to respond should we win it.
