All opinions should be respected on this thread. If you think they are great you are entitled to say it and if you think they are dire you can say that also. This is an open forum and people can say what they like!!!. It’s not about muting people and attempting to silence people who you don’t agree with

Saddlerone are you taking note!!!

Richard Money had 18 months experience as manager of Scunthorpe, plus the experience of managing two clubs in Sweden and one in Australia. So not a rookie by any stretch of the imagination.

Graydon had over 15 years coaching experience at Oxford, Watford, QPR and was assistant manager of Port Vale.

Dean Smith had been assistant manager at Leyton Orient for three years, before coming to Walsall as head of youth.

All of those were far more experienced than Mat Sadler when they were appointed as Walsall manager.

He also had 10 odd years coaching at youth levels. A rookie he was not.

I meant a rookie as in managerial experience coaching , scouting, physio is completely different to first team manager the book stops with you live and die by the sword , the board still had to take a punt on them. Dicky dosh ok he had some experience all be it in a tin pot league so ill retract that statement

The only manager that comes close to matching Sadlers lack of managerial and coaching experience is Brian Dutton.

Continually pointing at Graydon, Smith, DD etc is totally ludicrous. Like comparing chalk and cheese.

How is it ludicrous they are former managers of Walsall FC now if i compared them to Eddie Howe, Rob Edwards or Sean Dyche that would be ludicrous

League Two is a tin pot league, but it is the league Walsall have been in for the last four years. Richard Money had been manager of Scunthorpe United in this league for 18 months.

I agree. However, the best preparation for it is coaching at a variety of different clubs and being assistant manager to a manager with a lot of ideas and principles. Dean Smith worked as assistant to Martin Ling for three years, and Ray Graydon was assistant to John Rudge at Port Vale.

I would not have had any concerns if Trivela had appointed someone with the experience that Money, Graydon or Smith had when they came to Walsall. This does not mean that Sadler will be a failure, but it does mean that it is a risk.

I agree with you i would of liked someone with more exeperience too whether as a coach or assistant manager i just have a sneaky feeling sadler will be an unhidden gem

I 100% agree all opinions are valid whether you agree or not thats the beauty of debate and free speech . However there are a couple of posters on here that take great delight in mocking and trying to make other posters look silly on a regular basis were all supporters of Walsall FC end of the day we all want whats best for the club .

Let’s just ignore the past and gaze starry - eyed into the future yea.

His team beat our team 5-0 a few weeks after knocking us out of the F A Cup. Tinpot indeed.

That 5-0 defeat was a miserable day. If I recall rightly Dean Smith let a ball bounce and go over the top of him for one of the goals. I’m sure it was the day before I had to go back to work after the Christmas holiday too, which made it even more miserable!

The cup game was my 18th birthday, cheers Evran

Tinpot league as in the scandinavian and australian leagues

We’d let in four all season away from home in the League and then let in five in one afternoon. Gurrole Worsul! :joy:

It has a ring to it that does….Dan Dunning-Kruger Mole.

Dutton even had several years as a coach, and a spell as Assistant Manager, so you could argue that even he is/was more experienced.

What’s Sadler had? 3 years as a coach, all of which has been here, 1 of which was player/coach?

Zero confidence so far. Key achievement. They’ve taken out a massive loan?

Desperately hope I’m wrong as its so sad to see my club in this position

I agree. Matt Taylor was less experienced than Dutton, since he had only worked for 2 years with the Spurs under 18s, and never coached senior players. Presumably he was appointed because he interviewed very well.

I don’t think it is a coincidence that of the four previous managers of the Pomlett/Trivela era, the two least unsuccessful managers, Clarke and Flynn, both had proved themselves in their previous jobs. Of course, it is certainly possible that Sadler will be the exception that proves the rule, but there is no way that anyone can know that.
