Looking at those highlights,Adebayo will be brilliant once he gets the confidence of a couple of goals,I think him and Gaffney will be a match made in heaven by the end of the season.Extend his contract I say.
Think there is a player there and he can be a handful… But he was poor against Grimsby. Very slow to get his shots off unlike those highlights of last nite.
Highlights can be very deceiving though.
After xmas Gordon had some good games in league 1.
He’s a hardworking forward who dosen’t score many goals…plenty of players even at top level have made good careers for themselves by doing that.
His confidence is clearly at rock bottom, couldn’t even score a goal during pre season which says lots. Anyone who was thinking he could fill the void left by Cook was a little bit off.
For instance, when was the last time Christian Benteke scored yet he keeps getting picked by Palace?!
Disagree. Hardworking players that are adding something else if not goals have made a good career for themselves.
His issue is that he isn’t adding anything whatsoever at the moment.
My days ,he was Part of a very poor relegated League 1 side , now he can’t score in a league 2 side. He couldn’t even notch in pre season against non league opposition.
When does the point come that we just accept he isn’t very good?
Candlin may well still turn out to not be good enough, but surely he’s worth the nod over an out of sorts Gordon right now? Some just rise to the occasion when there is something to prove.
He had that cracking preseason a couple of years ago, got all excited about him, then poof! he’s gone into the abyss of Whitneydom. His BMI was probably 1% under or something.
Just my thoughts anyway.
Thought Dave played really well and provided good entertainment when slipping for the peno
I meant more last season, Peterborough and Bradford at home. They also played well at Sunderland. There is something there but he needs long spell out of team for his own good.
I’ve always thought Gordon would do a job in a midfield three.
He best attributes are running around and intercepting. Perfect for that role.
Same goes for Adebayo. He’s a threat when he has the ball but has no end product in front of goal, so stick him out on the wing. Sounded like he was a handful last night playing there.
Worth a try anyway
Good points Bags. Gordon is a bit like Richard Taundry but better in my view. Loads of energy and commitment and could chip in with a few goals from midfield.
Adebayo could be a half decent player but is not sharp enough in front of goal. Has decent control though.
Can see where your coming from… But Gordon is not disciplined enough to play that role. and gives so many silly fouls away.maybe because he tries so hard. I really like the chap. His confidence is obviously at an all time low… Just wish he could get himself on the scoresheet then maybe we could see him flourish at this level.
Agree with the silly fouls. Can be a bit reckless at times, but he is one that puts a shift in.
He’s definitely a grafter can’t take that away from him that’s why I hope so much his fortunes turn for him. Whatever else he always gives 100%.
Gives 100%, when he plays? Probably everyone agrees, but how his contribution affects the scoreline? And that’s his biggest problem. With strong competition for the starting spot, effort can be not good enough. Especially when all strikers will give nearly 100%. And playing in midfield? First we have many players there, second his tactical sense can be not good enough for this position. I hope he will be good player, but in which club, that could be the problem after the season.
If you can bear to watch it, there is a clip of Adebayo’s miss included in the Coventry Telegraph’s match report here.
For Gordon to not even hit the goal frame from 6-7 yards out is ridiculous.
Leave him out for a bit he’s totally gone.
The way he left the pitch when substituted I don’t think we’ll see Gordon start another game for a while, DC just stared forward avoiding all eye contact with him as he walked past.
Isn’t 100% effort the minimum any player putting on a footy shirt should give anyway ??? He missed a glorious chance to settle the game that no decent striker should be missing, I believe we have a reserve team this time, get him in there to get him playing with a bit of confidence again, but in my honest opinion I think we’ve seen the last of him for a while now Gaffney is here.
Gordon’s best long term position if he wants to continue as a football league player is wide forward in 4-3-3. Hardworking, can get up and down the flank and no expectation for him to chip in with a huge amount of goals, 5-10 would do.
Tin hat on but if Cook had stayed then him central with Gordon and Adebayo either side would’ve looked far more threatening than what is being put out.
Maybe it could still happen in the present squad. Think it’s time to ditch the 3-5-2, just too restricting many parts of the team going forward.
On Tuesday night it looked less 4-4-2 and more 4-3-2-1 with Adebayo as the sole front man and Gordon/Holden behind him - so more attacking midfield than forwards.
