Crewe Alexandra (A) May 3rd, 3pm

The game itself has been understandably overshadowed by the circumstances but we played pretty well. Asiimwe, Allen, Okagbue, Stirk and, particularly, George Hall were super. George Hall is really finding his feet and looked very dangerous. Simkin has suddenly become imperious, too.

The Crewe left wing back looked one of the best players I have seen this year in League 2.

And a decent referee.

I’d still start him and see if he can get to half time at least.

He’s been massively overplayed in the last three months so that is one failure of the January window post Lowe.

Did Sadler say anything about where Harrison is? If not injured he will come back into contention and think DJ will miss out for the first leg bench.

I do agree with all of your points there.

Our forward options aren’t great at all really.

I have deliberately avoided listening to Sadler.

There is certainly a bingo feel to his selections though.

Players seem to randomly drop out of the squad and then come back. You never know if there is an injury or not.

Positives from yesterday-the support was immense, great atmosphere and no negativity. The togetherness was back,Hall,Asimwe,Simkin,Williams,Stirk and Allen were superb,At the end Lakin and especially Liam Gordon showed how much it hurt and showed they really care.
Negative was no firepower and the 97th min heartache.

All you’re saying there is we scored goals with Nathan Lowe in the side. Total misrepresentation of the point I made.

The original post was concerned with Josh Gordon scoring, I’m saying it doesn’t matter because the team scores goals when JG plays The evidence is there from last season, from the first bit of this season and the couple of games he started in 2025.

. I’m not saying the only way to score is with JG in the side,I would prefer Nathan Lowe or George Hall any day of the week . I am saying tobe against Josh Gordon because he doesn’t score goals is short sighted.

Josh Gordon is a non league player.

Which fool gave him a 2 year contract?

It’s tragic that we are talking about Josh Gordon being the potential saviour for the season, sums it all up.

He looked it more than ever the last game he played. I can’t remember who it was against but he was miles off the standards required, in all areas.

Comparing him to even last season isn’t that useful, he is a year older and it matters at his age, especially after long layoffs with injury.

Going all out to get him seems a really crazy decision.

With his injury record it dies seem to be a signing that hasn’t paid off. He might still play a part in the play offs though, although potential savior is pushing it.

You literally said that we scored plenty of goals with JG in the side. This was essentially saying despite JG not scoring the team were, presumably because of his contributions.

So let’s have a look at last season. We scored 40 goals in 25 league games before JG joined, averaging 1.6 goals per game.

Post JG joining in the Jan, when he was involved in every league game we scored 30 goals in 21 games, so it reduced to 1.42 goals per game.

Like I say, our ability to score goals isn’t aided by him, if anything it is hindered and we score more without him.

We can agree on this, we are better without JG.

Assuming Matt starts ahead of Levi and Barrett is on the subs bench

Who would you leave off the bench:

Hornby, McEntee, Adomah, Josh Gordon, Lakin, DJ, Levi?

Barrett is suspended for 3 games due to a straight red isn’t he, so won’t be available for selection until the final, should we get there.

Would be back for the final. Missed yesterday plus the 2 semi games

Yep. Think Adomah is moonlighting as both the current RWB cover and the impact CF at same time on the bench.

McEntee won’t be excluded nor Lakin.

I think DJ misses out on Friday and then will be on the bench for second leg as last ditch option to bring on as ever.

Sadler won’t go for it Sunday you just know its going to be about 8 defensive minded players out of 10 outfield he’ll probably bring Mcentee back in for a start.

Same team as Saturday Donavan Daniels for Amantchi centre forward. Jamma and DJ to come on last 20 mins

Went yesterday and obviously gutted at the end. However, it was a fab day in general (even considering the late Bradford goal) and I thought we played well against a limited Crewe side.

I just hope the players can get themselves up for the playoffs now. One of my Villa supporting friends met Jamie Jellis on the train after the game and sent me this…
