That’s a really bad take by you. Being able to identify the absolute mess of formations we played today doesn’t have any baring on whether you can provide insight on our performance today or the season as a whole.
It would be nice if our Manager took your advice and worked out a coherent tactical plan, because all I’m seeing is a confused mess from week to week.
The formations were really easy to understand and identify.
Explaining the mess we made of it is more difficult.
Explaining what we made a mess of to people who can’t work out that we only played with 1 pivot and no number 10 until we went to 3 at the back is impossible
Formations are not the be all and end all of football in my view. They are important but form is surely more important. We had at least 3 players out there today whose form was way down on their best. I know players cannot play at their best every game but some of ours today were well off it.
We want to read the 8 page analysis of today, how Sadler is still a great manager and the general telling us all off that 19th in League 2 still represents great progress.
When is it coming. Tomorrow?. Why cant we have it this evening?
Today was tough. My Dad, a lifelong Saddler passed in the early hours of the morning with all of us by his side.
He was a second generation fan and lived and breathed the club.
His first away game was Luton in the 1940’s travelling there on what he called a sharabang from Wilkes’s club in Bloxwich. He was at Shrewsbury away in 61? when we got promoted and a season ticket holder until ill health limited him 2 years ago.
After about 4 hours sleep in the last 48 we decided to go today as he would have insisted.
He had his sons and grandchildren at the game today who are all season ticket holders hoping that the team would win in his honour.
I may have had a couple of beers celebrating Dads life but can’t help feeling massively disappointed by today’s awful performance.
He never saw us as a non league club. I think his descendants might.
So, we’re really calling people out based on the difference between a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-3-3? Christ.
You’re not a tactical genius for noticing we switched to a 5 at the back once Maher went off, literally everyone saw and recognised it. The most important point is that in either system, we were really poor against a side who were there for the taking.
We played 4231 as per usual then changed to a 5212 second half when dj came on
We all know the basic formations
Just the players weren’t the right fit for the roles expected of them
Eg dave rarely overlapped or created space as he is a cb by trade and so played like one
Hutch starts by the striker but plays deeper and deeper as he can’t get involved and the midfield in non existent yet again so end up more of a flat 3
Comley doesn’t like to get involved in the attacking play so sits just in front of the defenders so we are usually a man light going forward. He tries to recycle the ball which he wouldn’t need to do it you trust your cbs a bit more . It would be ok if he was a good passer to create from deep but he isn’t that .
Comley defends deep but hides a lot when we have the ball under pressure and hutch is man marked so we end up going long into draper to the channel for knowles to balls up
Not sure any of us who support Mat Sadler have ever pointed out we were right after a win! Anybody who did that would be a nutter. My view is that he is young and inexperienced as are most of his players. I pointed out before the game today it was the youngest Walsall team I could remember seeing. All that should be taken into account. If people want to have go blame the owners but to constantly attack the Manager and our players id self defeating in my view.
