D 0-0 vs Forest Green Rovers (H) - League Two - Sat 25th Nov, 3pm

I wondered who this was in the bookies.

I suspect you are correct. Sadler might be light on strikers, but as I said on the international duty thread, to play one up front is daft - and it showed against Harrogate.

As someone else pointed out in another thread, our shots to goals ratio is huge. This is because our chances, half chances and speculative efforts are falling to players who are not strikers, but who can be expected to chip in with the odd goal or three during the season.

We are slow to break down teams, ponderous as we are playing out from the back, and often end up lumping it forward (as happened last home game) to DJT. One bloke near me laughed and took the piss out of the lad, last home game as someone hammered it forward with him having no chance of bringing down a ball played ten feet over his head. Actually, when he came on DJ was similarly feeding from scraps.

It has to be two up front for me. When fit any two from Freddie, DJ, DJT or Matt. I’d also add Knowles to that group, up front in the ā€˜10’ position he played and scored so many for Yeovil. He is arguably being played out of position at the moment.

I can’t see us winning but I never do lol

I’d go

Evans
Foulkes daniels okagbue Gordon
Stirk mcentee
Maher tierney hutch
Dj

If tierney isn’t fit play hutch in the middle and djt outside
Hopefully draper is fit enough for the bench
Time to drop Riley and knowles for a game Atleast . I know it’s a young right side but they are a weak team and they should have the energy and desire to do well

Can Menayese play RB?

To be fair I would love to see Doug Taylor and DJ in tandem once again. They showed some really promising signs last winter pre-xmas when we went on that great run, and created havoc at Shrewsbury in the BSMFLT. Both have been guilty of missing plenty of chances recently but we can forgive them their misdemeanours and hope they can strike up that unique bond again.

I don’t like to think about him playing RB.

I totally get that and I’m no tactical genius so probably not even right. I’d feel safer trying to take advantage of their weakness at the back though rather than hope we don’t slip up as I wouldn’t trust us to keep a clean sheet even with those 3 in the middle.

Yes, they are good points. Plus people want to see entertainment. It’s not just about the result.

As long as you never split infinitives!

It was important to me, from an early age to quickly learn not to do that

This is the first time my 19 year old son has chosen not to go in 10 years. He is favouring a day out in Brum with a mate. :pensive:

Noisy and boisterous? We haven’t been like that at home for a good few seasons now

You obviously haven’t seen Everton Andy when he’s had a few.

We certainly don’t want a repeat of Harrogate on Saturday. We need to hit them hard and fast and score early.
I agree that FGR are in somewhat of a false position so we have to be careful of being too complacent.
Whatever the rift is between DJ and MS needs to be sorted ASAP. Johnson is miles better than DJT will ever think of being, and should be the number striker Sadler thinks about, especially with Draper out.
Enjoy the game everyone, I’ll be watching from afar.

Rift? People keep saying this but there is no proof. I don’t think there is a rift. Sadler simply does not think that DJ can play for 90 minutes in the current system. I tend to agree but I would start with him on Saturday as it is the sort of game where the first goal could be vital.

We underestimate FGR at our peril. They’re a very decent footballing side who knock it around nicely, we will have to work with less than 50% possession that’s for sure so vital when we win the ball back we use it well. Hopefully the emotion of the occasion doesn’t prove a distraction on the pitch.

Anyone wanting to catch up with me post match to get my thoughts on the afternoons proceedings will be sorely disappointed, I have to shoot off early as it’s our annual Christmas/Winterval Lights switch on tomorrow evening.

No easy games but no excuses from me not to win this. 1 point from say Harrogate and FGR is horrendous. Definetely sacking terriority for Sadler. He’s gonna get some stick if we lose this one. That is certain!!!
