Aye
Captain the other week an all. Sounds like somethings gone off.

I’m sick of the green kit and looking forward to dumping it in time for next season. It really is sh*t.

Worst ground I’ve ever been to

Nearly 500 to Barrow for a near end of season mid table nothingness scrap is something else really. Fans get criticised on here regularly but lack of numbers on the road isn’t one of them.

Never been to Barrow but seems the place “lives up to my expectations” reading the posts above!

Edit; This is just a mini pre season for Flynn now. Comfortably dragged the team away from relegation trouble and now testing out all sorts of systems and personnel so just have to stick with it and hope for once team hits the ground running from August.

From where I was sat, it was mainly electricity pylons, cranes, and a rather large Carpet World warehouse. :joy:

Barrow town itself was nothing special from what I saw of it, but after the game I had a bit of a tour and did some exploring. Started off going across the bridge over the channel to Walney Island. Some great sea views on the western side (if you ignore the offshore wind farm). Back on the mainland, there are some impressive monumental buildings down the old dock area (harking back to when it was a major ship building centre).

I then took the scenic coast road back to Ulverston and rejoined the main road to the M6. Some amazing views across Morecambe Bay, and a glimpse of the southern tip of Windermere.

Hoping that (if they stay up) our game up there next season is in August or May and there’s some nice weather to make a weekend if it. But stay somewhere outside of the town I think.

The game itself was horrible and scruffy - just like Barrow rather than the surrounding area. It wasn’t helped by a cabbage patch of a pitch (ball bobbling and bouncing in unexpected directions), a bit of a cold gusty wind, and low sun blinding our our players in the second half.

Oh, and given all the discussion about exactly this on the other Barrow thread, how come no one has even mentioned it was a female assistant ref running the line in front of the dugouts?

I assumed one of them had spotted Chubby Brown amongst our fans as they only seemed to be singing one chant. :joy:

Awful game, great day. Indeed their stone island crew were the youngest stone island crew I’ve ever seen. A Barrow copper saw me looking at them shaking my head after and said “sorry mate they’re embarrassing” As so many times pub before the match was highlight of the day.

Pity we didn’t bump into each other mate. Mind you unless you were in the “bar” from 35th to 55th minute that would have been unlikely

A poor game on a poor pitch. I’ll settle for a point. And while not wishing to tempt fate, I don’t think we are in real danger of the drop anymore.

The team selection was very odd. 442 is fine but, if you prefer 352, Menayese or Leak could have played and we could have kept Osadebe and Shade as wing backs. As it was, we lost their attacking power and compromised the defence. They both did OK as full-backs but we certainly missed Osadebe’s running at the defence.

It was not really the sort of game to give Tomlin a run out. He showed a few nice touches but probably has a sore neck from watching the ball fly over his head. He was saved from being sent off, I suspect, by none of the officials seeing the incident, since the ball was elsewhere. He was not, unfortunately, worth changing the system to accommodate.

Up front, that was a poor miss by Miller but maybe the pitch contributed. Given he is a loan player and Rodney is on a short contract, shouldn’t we be playing the latter to see what he can do?

Oh, and Rushworth had a better game. Had no chance with the goal and handled superbly.

Rodney isnt fit enough to start yet I dont think. I would expect that to happen sooner rather than later though.

Rodney is on a 2 and a half year deal I think

Oh yes - sorry confused him with Tomlin.

Have a look at the replay again and see the way the ball bounces up even though Miller hits it along the ground. The pitch was like a ploughed field the way it affected the ball bobbling and bouncing in unexpected directions so his shot might have been on target but hit a rut.

I poked my head in the “bar”. That was enough.

Whilst the whole set up was very non league, I thought their fan zone was decent.

I don’t know if at Walsall we’ve considered something similar or whether we feel that the bars and kiosks inside the ground do the trick. I believe that in the absence of The Saddlers Club and for all the reasons @funk_hits_the_fan has stated over many years it is another thing the club have failed to do in terms of match day experience.

Must of missed the fanzone :grin: You training it to Harrogate mate?
