Like i said i like him but he shouldnt be immune from being substituted now and again it happens to players at much higher levels than we are at and talking about He’s probably our best player on his day but he does frustrate the hell out of me as well at times but he’s not on his own there lol.
It’s difficult one as I get what people say in that DJ doesn’t run around like Josh Gordon does, for example, but he is a different type of forward / striker than Josh. And that is where we maybe have to be more adaptable in games if things are not working out. If game plan A (the pressing, harrying etc style) is not working then have a game plan B, which involves an adapted style with the player(s) you bring on. Surely that is part of being involved in professional football. Yes, we aren’t the premier league, but we are still involved in a pretty elite level of football when you take it all into consideration.
And this notion that DJ doesn’t run around does grind my gears a bit. Yes, he doesn’t play the role like Josh Gordon does but, at Stockport, I watched him closely for long spells of the game, and he ran across the front line, closed defenders down and tracked players back into our half to help defend and put pressure on attacks being played towards our area. At times, he was running more than DJT did in that game and actually looked like he knew where to run as well. Someone mentioned above that DJT often is looking around with the appearance of wondering where to be or what to do - I see that too.
I’d love to have seen more of Matt and DJ given a run together (yes I know it would mean adapting our style) but if we keep dropping points because despite us creating chances, we just don’t take them, then we have to try something else to get those goals. I actually thought DJT and DJ looked okay for a spell together at Grimsby but maybe that game was a bit of an anomaly.
Would Faal and DJ work? I can’t see Gordon and DJ working as both a bit small, although Josh does win headers.
Talking of Faal, I agree that he should maybe have started on the bench today and been more of an impact sub if he hasn’t eaten. You can’t expect someone to perform their best when they haven’t fuelled up or prepared as needed.
DJT is shite if he’s still here next season they might as well sign me and I’m 46
I guess I must have missed something somewhere, but why is it us and Swindon aren’t playing next Saturday when everyone else in League 2 is?
International call ups
Ah right, thanks for the reminder! I’d forgotten about our line up of top internationals!!
Still in the pack as we come round the final bend.
Crawley got games in hand but have to play Stockport, Mansfield, Wrexham and barrow.
We could be going to Wimbledon last game us or them
Good goal from the Cannock Canavero and a promotion winning penalty save.
Far away far away
I agree with a lot of what you say about DJ. He is a far better player without the ball than he is given credit for, quite tactically aware and sees what is going on around him. He’s not even that bad at holding the ball up.
I think there are a few problems now though. He hasn’t really played any amount of first team football for over a year now, age isn’t on his side for a player who has never been the most athletic, and I do get the feeling he is a player who thrives on being the main man, feeling a bit loved. I’m not sure he is going to be great as an impact sub, and we just don’t have the time to get him up to full speed even if that was what Sadler wanted.
It’s a shame how it has worked out really for him, he must be really frustrated after his Mansfield saga.
That said, we have been in the lead at Gillingham, Crawley and Colchester away, and Barrow at home and not been able to see out any of them. Goals change games of course, but it isn’t the only issue. Given the injuries we have had we have done well to still be in with a chance I guess.
I just find it really sad that Iin a game when a goal could make a real difference to our season today who knows . He could not give DJ 10 minutes to a bloke who has proven he doesn’t need 5 opportunities to score a goal
Be honest who else was disappointed when DJT came on instead of DJ yet again ?
Spot on
I’d love to know where this myth that DJ is lazy and selfish has come from?
I can’t recall a single game where I’ve sat there and thought (going back to last season too): “this blokes lazy and a waste of space!”
Anyone else ?
Spot on
Nope not for me either.
Has anyone actually said he’s lazy? Or selfish (only in a strikers way that I’d want him to be anyway!)?
Pretty much.
You, yourself, have mentioned many times that he doesn’t track back apparently or move much….
Right?
Where has this come from? I get that he doesn’t charge around like Gordon - and I preferred he didn’t to be honest.
Don’t think I’ve ever said that at all no. Definitely wouldn’t even want him tracking back so no way I’d have said that
However…whether you me or anyone else likes it or agrees with it, there is a part of the game that involves defending from the front and if you choose to have a forward who can’t do that well enough then it will change your entire outlook on how the rest of the team sets up……ask Man U fans and ETH about Christiano….
Hmmmmm.
Time for a trip down memory lane if I can be arsed tomorrow
Yeah you do that….itll keep you busy….drag up all sorts of things I’ve said if you like it’ll be nice to see if I was ahead of the curve or not on a few things….
What I do know is you won’t find anything where I’ve mentioned DJ not tracking back.
Regardless…
You know you have been on a downer with DJ this season.
Do you think DJ (when fit) is a better option that DJT and Gordon?
I personally think our best front pairing would be Matt/Faal and DJ (when fit).
