D 1-1 vs Colchester United (A) - League Two - Sat 16th March, 3pm

Oh and one thing is for certain - I was ahead of the curve on the McEntee not being a no.8 thing

To be fair, I think you said the same to me privately too.

The vision

I think in general defences are getting better season on season, even in League 2.

A player like DJ gets his goals by capitalizing on these errors, by errors I mean defensive positional errors, not just misplaced back passes, but goals of this type are becoming harder to come by.

The days of goal poacher seems to be over. See how Michael Owen went from first choice for England to never being picked almost overnight. This was 15 years ago.

I like DJ and hope he still plays a part in our season, but I’m not going to criticize Sadler for not picking him. Although he’d probably be better suited to games against sides nearer the bottom like today’s opponents

I haven’t been on a downer on him at all. I’ve been realistic all along and refused to go along with the narrative that Sadler had an issue with him and that it was simply a case of him not being a) focussed due to his personal circumstances and b) not the player peoples selective memory wanted to think of him as.

He was always a 30 year old journeyman striker who’d had a couple of hot spells in a stop start career who hadn’t kicked a ball for 6 months….i didn’t think we should’ve signed him.

He’s not just not fit, he’s at a stage of his career where his focus and drive isn’t where it once was. It happens to everyone but it’s most noticeable in strikers due to the physicalities that the role entails.

I don’t need to go over this again, you’ll see it all when you trawl back through my posts since July, tomorrow.

I think when he signed the pal. Was for DJ and Matt with a back up of Draper and DJT….

But this changed when Draper hit the ground running and DJ had personal issues that distracted his focus…and quite rightly so by all accounts.

One thing is clear, Sadler has to sort that situation out in the summer. You can’t have such a higher earner sat on the bench every week.

Given the contract situation with our forwards - we are actually in a very good position to acquire some quality younger forwards (as seems the mantra now) and supplement with some experience.

My own opinion is that our forwards are really costing us right now - and we don’t have the firepower up top (to capitalise on mistakes or nick a goal) when we need them to.

A canary down the mine moment will be if we sign DJT. That would be absolutely mental.

I think Douglas is improving all the time. He’s 21 ffs….go and look at where DJ was at 21…..

All parts of his game are developing and I believe he has the ability to develop his goal record too.

Tbf the DJ thing has been done to death. Sadler would live or die by the decision not to play him and for all intents and purposes Sadler has been proven right(?) can’t find the word i’m looking for this late at night. Redeemed or something like that.

DJT is abysmal. Come on :joy:

Nothing there.

Proved right ? Has he given DJ the chance to prove him wrong !

6 wins on the spin and no one even mentions DJ….2 draws and a loss in a week and the managers clueless for not using him again :rofl:

I see a young player with potential to improve and who has all the tools required to improve.

Strikers take a while to develop the skills required to finish in senior football. It’s unusual for young players to have the required composure and positioning skills. Those that do are often at the top end and top clubs. The majority take a little time.

Not sure about Matt but the other two are decent young players in this league in positions where you can eventually get big money for if they keep progressing.

Hutch has a year left so it’s really no different to others like Bradshaw going into last 12 months. If they don’t want to sign then you simply have to sell them.

He’s done enough to get a league one team. Could see someone like Lincoln being interested given they’d have watched him plenty checking up on Draper and they could be a championship club soon.

Unsure what he has shown the past 18 months to give any future hope he will be any good.

I’d rather take a chance of another young striker who has potential rather than someone who is miles off it.

Tbh, he should be playing week in week out in non league or LOI. He’s clearly not up to League two standard right now.

He’s also 23 this year. Thats getting on a bit in development terms these days.

Wombles next two away games are at Crewe and Stockport.

70 points could well be enough for 7th so it’s still very much in play.

Barrow have a weird fixture schedule of (starting today) five of their next six games being at home and then they finish with three aways and Mansfield at home so anyone’s guess how they’ll negotiate that.

You’re playing tricks with birth dates there mate…

Next season he’s STILL an U23 player….

Next season he’ll be the same age Hutch or Taylor Allen was LAST season…and they’re both hugely improved in that time.

I just think he’s shown enough to tell me he’s on an upward curve, having had limited game time, and as his game time improves you’ll see some big strides.

I’d like to have seen him on loan last season or even pre January this season but I still think he’s got enough about him.

Its utter crap mate its excuses being made again for wrong decisions.

Spot on 23 on the 18th of November this year I believe

If DJT is here next season I’d be amazed he’s poor and offers very little i want quality from my strikers not running around like a headless chicken we have Gordon for that ones enough in that mould we stick with the same strikers next season we are going nowhere they cant finish in fact some of there attempts at finishing are cringeworthy and embarrassing. We should be sitting here with 7 points from 3 games not 2 that’s on them we haven’t actually played that badly our finishing has let us down massively can’t see how anyone can argue with that.

Nonsense, I expected at least 4

I tend to agree with that bud pair up Gordon with a striker (goal scorer) fine but not two work horses in the same team .

Thats all I’m saying mate we can’t just have workhorses upfront we need a bit of everything we have missed Matt at least he’s a threat and a presence in both boxes and his touch is miles better than Faals
