In fairness to the referee, DD clearly had an internal leg injury when he went down, but when Gordon and their player went down in the box they were both holding their heads at first. In those circumstances, there is no choice but to stop play. There was an incident in Dundee recently where the referee did not stop play, and he is getting a lot of criticism. Unfortunately, players sometimes pretend to have a head injury, but the referee cannot second guess them.
Itâs those Barron Knights we seem to have trouble with. Tuesdays especially.
Oh well that makes me excited for next season.
Hurray!
Since November I actually like what Matt has contributed to the team. He holds the ball and actually brings the midfield in to play. Itâs not his fault that his team mates get over excited and just lump everything in the air at him.
With our current forward choices and lack of goals I would give him a run of starts and alternate the others off him. He takes alot of the load of the others and one of them may click in to some form.
Having said all that we are hopefully investing a recruiting better in the summer and wonât offer him a new deal. He just wonât last another season at this level. Unless he fancies a player coach role as he does seem to be a good presence off the pitch.
He was good again last night for 45 mins. Was blowing out of his arse as soon as the second half started. My only criticism of Sadler was that he should have swapped him out for Faal a few minutes earlier
Thatâs why I would have him starting. Lacks the legs to impact a game as a sub but can give you a foundation to work off in the first half.
Also defends set pieces in to our box better than our defenders.
Gordon rarely stops a cross coming into our box either, in fact on Saturday it was quite embarrassing how little he was interested in even trying to on several occasions. He has some good attributes but unless he can improve his crossing and his ability to stop a cross, he is useless as a wing back. Knowles gets all the stick but he definitely puts more effort in and the output from both is similar.
Why doesnât Sadler understand that?
I am sure that Liam Gordon is a great guy to have around on the training pitch, he always puts in a shift, and makes a few good runs with the ball every match. But he cannot perform the two most important parts of the role of a wing back - creating chances from crosses, and preventing the opposition from creating chances from crosses.
Gordon and Knowles are two of Sadlerâs very favourite players - guaranteed 90 minutes every week, but they are perhaps the biggest weakness in the side.
I am probably an exception in that I donât blame our six strikers for their lack of goals, and would not really mind any of them coming back next season - as long as Gordon and Knowles have left.
Heâs another one thats not a wing back Heâs a full back thatâs the issue not sure what Knowles is have we ever known that though? Heâs playing a system that doesnât suit the players we have.
Agree and teams know it if you watch they always shift it wide and attack from those areas
And yet here we were, all agreeing what an excellent piece of business it was to get Gordon to sign a contract extension, and even one of the most criticial fans noted that he was âplayer of the season so farâ
Liam Gordon is the least of our problems.
Agreed Bernie. Good shout.
Not me! I have been pointing out why he doesnât contribute to the attacking side for months and months
Who I appreciate the work Matt has done recently if we give him
Another year and sign josh Gordon we are in trouble
Iâm glad you included âmost â mine at school was a bit of a bully who had no time for the majority in his group unless you showed some sort of sporting prowess.( not football )and spent most of his time with the girls PE teacher in her changing room .fortunately we had a very knowledgeable passionate Football teacher .and many lads over the years achieved success in various levels of the game .
Because they offer nothing substantial. Their opinion of Sadler not being good enough is personal and was decided the second he took over.
I made comments on the Gillingham match tread that Sadler is doing himself no favours in his post-match interviews by using such words as brilliant, great and fantastic to describe players and team performances generally. Someone at the club really needs to be advising him to moderate his language, as he introduced a new adjective into this interview, when describing Matt as incredible. Perhaps he was, but I donât know as I didnât watch the match, although I somehow doubt that the term was accurate.
I would suggest that the pressure on him would be reduced somewhat if he stopped bringing unnecessarily more of it on himself.
A proper interviewer would ask " If theyâre already brilliant, whereâs the improvement coming from?" It suggests that itâs only bad breaks keeping them from being where " fantastic" teams normally are. Even fans well-disposed to him can see itâs a good bit more than that.
Thereâs also what rival managers would think. It so defies the reality, they might wonder why the team need protecting from that reality and objective scrutiny ,and conclude they donât handle pressure. Iâm not against Sadler , but whether he means it or not, the hype is transparent.
I see what you mean but they have missed chances, and some quite easy ones in some cases.
On the crosses, itâs obvious rubbish when one hits the first defender but there is also a responsibility on the strikers to take chances at the near post, for example.
