he does define it in this one that he doesn’t recognise goals more the effort they put in which I’d say should be a given. Then goes hyperbolic saying that their work is the reason Isaac and Earing could get 30 goals? unless I’ve misheard the number and he says 13 idk. Tbh I think this is his way rightly or wrongly of protecting his players almost the polar opposite of Flynn. I’d be surprised if he was saying everything is rosy behind closed doors.

Our strikers don’t get chances but they don’t work for them either. How many times is there just one player in the box? Certainly against Sutton there was opportunities but the forwards and midfielders are standing still gormlessley. Not sure if that’s an instruction but we don’t look for cut backs too often either so it baffles me. Always mkaing the wrong decisions.
Tiresome.
Gordon has managed 2 assists for us from a quick web search in two seasons in 62 games. Cashman managed that in 7 games. The end product is particularly poor from both sides considering the formation hence I can’t see Matt and Faal getting much of what’s left this season. I do think Matt contributes the most of the 4 from what I’ve seen and would be a starter for me.

Sadler thinks that Gordon and Knowles are fantastic. Most fans can see that despite the fact they are hard-working, and often in the game a lot, they lack the raw talent to be in a good side at this level.
Effort, energy and attitude have taken them a long way. They can do the basic things well most of the time, but when required to find and execute the killer pass in a split second, they simply have not got the ability.

We have so little creativity. Hutch is a goal threat but doesn’t create much. Knowles and Gordon are pretty hopeless in that regard and Tierney and Stirk just run around a lot.
To me only Earing is a genuinely creative force. We also relied on Daniels a lot for creativity during the good mini-run, that was probably never going to last long.

Fair enough. I can’t remember how long LG was out for last season, but remember it was a very serious injury, so am surprised he has got up to 62 games.
The point is valid. He should be getting more assists. I agree.
I don’t quite understand why TK and LG do get so few assists. Whilst there are undoubtedly better crossers out there, they should have more, even from mis hit crosses.

Thanks for that.You can see why we are currently short of goals. Numbers,2,3 and 4 on that list are not available and Draper has gone and the joint number 6’s are just coming back from injury! .

@WestieJack knows more inside info than me but I understand it’s an option the club is looking at, a 12 month extension for Matt (on reduced heavily incentivised terms), he’s a hugely popular figure amongst the group and Sadler admires his leadership qualities. Also we have an option to convert Josh Gordons loan into a permanent move in the Summer.

I would only like to see Matt with an extended contract if he also plays some sort of coaching role. He played well last night and was involved in the goal (neither him nor Earing with an official assist) and had to put up with some awful treatment from the centre-backs. Having booked them, the ref did not seem to want to send them off but he could at least have given some fouls. he seemed to be able to give them in the other direction.
There was another refereeing inconsistency, which the commentators pointed out. When Daniels went down, the ref played on with Crawley attacking and us a centre back light. Later, with Walsall on the break, he pulled play back for a Crawley player down in our area. At least he gave the penalty but I do not understand why referees never give penalties for what happens at corners. Holding down attackers with both arms, pulling shirts etc. are always fouls outside the box.
