I dont want that at my club

Bit of a diver I’m afraid. Was embarrassing when he fell v Leicester under no contact whatsoever for a penalty.

We frequently call out premier league wannabes for it and it really is filtering down the leagues now.

Yep, I’d say the same.

Either him or DJ (which is off the table now).

Daniels is the best defender at the club, and led by example as captain. Can’t think of anyone coming remotely close.

Hutch is probably young player of the season, does he class as that anymore? No idea.

I agree. He does it every single game and even Flynn has mentioned it in interviews. I notice he also has treatment a couple of times in every game, which is odd - no one else is like that. If most of the others need treatment, they are genuinely injured.

He’ll have his 23rd birthday before the end of the season, I would say that’s pushing it to be called ā€œyoungā€ in the football world.
Bennett is 21 so maybe he would be an appropriate winner, I can’t really think of anyone else.

Agree on Daniels, with DJ only having a half season DD would be my choice, but there’s still a few weeks for another player to overtake him if they have a strong finish.

The club have now deleted the tweet and Facebook post about the late change on the bench. The EFL site shows the original line-up with Maddox on the bench. Neither Maddox or DJT are listed on the club website match report. Hopefully the club realised in time and didn’t make the change after all.

As I understand it young player of the year is for u23s criteria for which is being under the age of 23 on the 1st August of that season. So yes I’d imagine he is in the ā€œyoungā€ player Category.

There are 20 odd games to go but if a ā€œyoungā€ player who was top of the goals / Assists / chances created lists didn’t win it I’d be a bit surprised :joy:

Id give it Bennett as he never hid in any game bar the last one where has Hutchison will disappear every other one so basically the same number of matches.

It was an illusion

I do find it quite staggering that there can be a yearly outcry of lack of creativity along with a general acceptance that this seasons team is one of the most basic, long ball and un creative in the league and yet we will focus on what a 22 year old doesn’t do when he’s 3rd in the entire division for creating goals in a team that has had one forward all season….that in itself is actually bordering on miraculous :joy::joy:

The fact that you then give player of the year to a wide player from another club, who left at Xmas without a single assist to his name is altogether quite strange for me.

Walsall fans love a hard working poor player
Walsall fans don’t like more laid back talented actual good footballers
95% of Walsall fans would prefere kinsella over hutch or sawyers or westcarr even though 3 of those can actually win you a game and 1 can’t

That’s fair enough if the criterion is to be under 23 at the start of the season, but I don’t think of that age as being young, certainly not for a fourth division team.
On that criterion he could well be a deserved winner, but I don’t think I’d bother to vote, not because I have a problem with him, I just think a player of his age shouldn’t be eligible.

I can’t believe that is true, even though I’m a big fan of Liam.

To be fair I think that’s generally just football fans, maybe more commonly in this country rather than in Europe / South America.

It’s just a very cultural thing.

I’ve said this before and I’ll be shot down in flames over it but when I’m at games I’m staggered at how much work Hutchinson gets through. But perception is key and unless you end up getting your shorts dirty and picking yourself up off the floor it’s generally unnoticed.

I’ve seen Knowles do some horrific things with the ball and the crowd sing his name afterwards like he’d just pulled a rabbit out the hat, and then Maddox performs a sublime piece of skill that most players at this level are incapable of and it’s completely unnoticed.

Most likely because we judge ā€œyoungā€ on the very highly publicized freaks of nature that burst through at 18….it’s actually very unusual and most players are still struggling to break into a first team at 22.

If you filter down u23 players in league 2 who have played 20+ games, hutchinson is actually near the top of just about everything.

Escaped with a point describes it perfectly.

If someone game me the choice of having Sawyers now for Kin’s it would be
" Thanks for your loyalty and effort Liam"

A lot of fans hated sawyers for a long time when he played with us.
Lazy was more a common phrase than talented

Too many Walsall fans are ignorant. They thought Sawyers was lazy and Elijah shit when it was obviously within a handful of games they had quality which would see then play at higher levels.

Kins is a good player. And we definitely need someone to break it up, hold, pass do the basics of possession in the middle.

Hutchinson is obviously a talent, he’s not (yet) consistent and his tendency to not quite scrap through 50/50s ball-winning situations is a flaw which we saw again yesterday. He’s not very physical generally but he can run with the ball and pick a pass. That’s quite unusual in this league.
