I’m not trying to prove you wrong ! , I’m just saying that because you think that doesn’t mean that’s indisputably how it was .
For what it’s worth I didn’t think much of it , but that’s just my opinion
Games like this are the reason why we never get in to the top 10.
I’ve said multiple times that the club has an attitude problem - we are too comfortable bobbing around in mid table. Getting in to the top 10, or even the playoffs represents pressure - and the club just don’t want it.
Pity Saddler doesn’t rate Maher.
It’s a step up a step we haven’t made yet .January signings have not improved this team for this season, to enable that step or even attempt it ,signing a RWB would show some determination.we have replaced Draper with Faal the rest are for investment and the future .
Some good performances from a few of our players today, DD, the priest and Comley.
Earring was so so apart from the last twenty minutes and Hutchinson was distinctly low key today.
Evans wants a good kick up the exhaust pipe because his stupid antics almost gifted Sutton a second goal, yes he made a few good aerial catches but overall I wasn’t impressed.
The biggest frustration for me is Knowles delivery which from a corner is woeful time after time.
If we want to have any chance of making the playoffs we surely need to beat teams instead of pitifully hanging on for a draw and constantly giving the ball away. I’m so looking forward to Gillingham (not)
Sky highlights
Wonder how much say and influence Dan Watson has on Sadler as to selection of keeper .watson needs to be the man who should be kicking Evan’s backside as well .
I think the highest league position we have achieved this season was 10th I can’t remember after how many games ( not many ) and I said then if we achieved anything higher than that I would be amazed and I still hold that same opinion today .in a pretty average league.probably 6 decent teams in this league .the rest nothing to choose between them .
I think we have been starved of success for so long that fans will cling onto any form of positivity and take it as a sign of something a lot greater than what it actually represents. And I totally get it.
We have put good runs together under most of the managers we have had in this league. We are capable of good performances and good runs of form in short spells. But for a real chance you have to be consistent for months and months. Especially in this particularly strong league this year. The squad is marginally better than past seasons but as I said previously we are at least 2 or 3 solid performers (think 3 more DD’s) away from any kind of sustained challenge
This talk of play offs after a few decent performances raises expectations beyond what I think this squad can achieve. Then after a result like today meltdowns ensue. We are nowhere near consistent enough and that’s what is required over 30+ games, not 6 games.
Must admit
I know it was a poor performance today, but Daniels goal was worth the entrance fee itself
I know a member of the Sutton coaching staff. His analysis of the game summed up….
“Walsall had no identity. We had no idea what they’d do next other than go long…
Delighted when they brought Matt on, cos it meant they’d go longer and we were happy with that….
Plan all week was to rattle into Hutch. Get tight and not let him play….
Too many long hopefull diagonals which let us counter you…
We’ve had a few days and 5 new players but felt we out played you with the ball….”
I couldn’t disagree with him tbh
I’d disagree with the comments about Hutch. He was involved in most things, but unfortunately a lot of the good work that he did was undone by Knowles. Also, I didn’t think we particularly “went long”
They’re his words not mine…that’s how they saw it. I wouldn’t disagree with the fact I thought they looked a more organised outfit and had the better of the possession.
Hutch was better second half but I think that’s why they made the subs they did, to try and block him out of that inside right area.
I think I’d have been happier with him taking the shot on rather than pass to Knowles (2/3 times).
Ahhh so what your basically saying is you got to win majority of your games to be successful, thanks for clearing that up.
A really, really frustrating game which we never fully got to grips with. Like many have said, the midfield was crying out for a bit more industry with Earing or Hutchinson both having off games.
The decision to play Evans over Smith was baffling. Smith was integral to our upturn in form and performances because he moved the ball quickly. To his credit, Evans did really well today coming for crosses and took a lot of pressure off, but his style just doesn’t suit the way Sadler wants to play.
It was the right call to start DJT given his recent form. It was also the right call to bring him off as he offered little to nothing, partially to do with the lack of device. Faal, although missing a golden chance showed some nice hold up play which is promising and will be an asset when others get on his wavelength. Matt was decent too and had a nailed on penalty turned away
The ref was dreadful, constantly warning players before set pieces about pulling but not being brave enough to make a call when that continued. He must have seen Beautyman slap Hutch round the back of the head as he called him over for it. The most bizarre one though was Knowles going past their man on the by line, and either being chopped in half or producing one or the worst dives you’ll ever see. Either book him for diving (which it probably was), or give us the free kick. I’m still mystified that he gave nothing
The one thing that I was pleased with though was that we didn’t allow ourselves to be bullied. Too many times in recent history we’ve played games like that and it’s literally been men against boys. We ere able to match their physicality, but we’re let down a little by the creative players. As the old adage goes though, if you can’t win then at least don’t lose
Absolutely stop Hutch .thats the jugular ( so to speak ) I’m afraid.
I’m a massive fan of Hutch and yes there’s going to be games were he’s right off it and you take him off or don’t play him .but most times I’d be loathed to take him off when he’s ineffectual its usually down to the the opposition has nullified him it up to Sadler to make the necessary changes in our midfield to counteract that which he failed miserably today to do.
Talking about clearing things up, wasnt it around this time last year that you declared the corner had been turned and insinuated Michael Flynn was the best thing to happen to Walsall since Ray Graydon?
If I could be bothered I would dig the post out but there’s no need to make you look silly, you do that consistently yourself
Stop hutch you stop Walsall
What else we got?
Knowles whose cross wouldnt make a vampire flutter?
Djt who’s an excited kid chasing shadows?
Earing who’s spent the whole season crocked?
Matt which just means we go long and has less shots than a nun ?
The biggest worry for me today was Sadler. He said he didn’t bring Tierney on because Earing got back into the game. Why’s it got to be like for like? Why not take Knowles off who was having another shocker and go 4 at the back and put an extra man in midfield? James Taylor , evans , Knowles and david okagbue I don’t wanna see again anytime soon. Whoever picked the man of the match must’ve been trolling us. Comley and Daniels was the only 1s in contention imo
