D 2-2 vs Crewe Alexandra (A) - League Two, Sat 19th August, 3:00pm

Why are we having to take off dj and draper on 60 minutes every match? Im sorry but you dont see Man city taking off Haaland after 60 mins unless game is won or i dont know other clubs in our league taking there star strikers off every game at that time. Especially when we replace them with Oteh and Matt. Matt for an experienced striker just doesnt look after the ball hes very disappointing.

We have also lost 2 of the 3 core defenders from last season. So Sadler is working with different tools.
Maybe his own choice. Did we offer Monthe a deal? Who knows?
White individually was calamitous at times but he was part of a very effective unit which was very solid…
Hopefully the new 3. Hussey Daniels and PF (fingers crossed) can get a relationship going quickly.
We are more adventurous and progressive in midfield but that means being more vulnerable. We need a balance there.

I think that man might be Comley. He got better and better last season and I was hugely impressed with him at Blackburn.

Just like this time last year - we’ve got some big players out.

For me, Foulkes and Williams aren’t there yet plus as you say an experienced midfield head.

We need another signing or two and a couple of this key injured players back.

Defensively, we need to be far better. Daniels is often a one man defensive unit. The two goals at Morecambe and the two yesterday were identical. The first a single pass which rips us apart and the second a speculative cross which avoids the eleven defenders we have back there.

To that point I thought Smith was ok at Blackburn and Evans shouldn’t be slam dunk number 1.

Completely agree on Mcentee.

The quality of both teams at times was really poor, the ball was going from one side to the other after one touch, crewe also missed two absolute sitters, one in the first half when their bloke was free from a corner/cross literally a foot out and seemed to bottle going for the ball for fear of clashing with the post. In the second half another player had a free header in the six yard box and managed to head it into the ground and over the bar. Defensively we are a mess.

The subs were ready at 2 nil but didn’t get on in time.

Like any game there are are positives and negatives to take away.
On a positive Hutchinson finally gets on the scoreboard, the DJ/Draper partnership is improving every game.
I’m not sitting watching dull hoof it up the pitch Flynn tactics week in week out. DD gives a captain’s performance tirelessly. Younger players coming into the squad.
The negatives for me are the constant lack of being able to hold onto a lead and see a game out.
The substitutions Oteh for Draper I suppose I can get (to a point) DJ being taken off seems soft to me and Matt coming on just seems absolutely barmy, why would anyone take off the main threat and stick a player on that lacks pace goals and the ability to hold the ball up.
For me Matt is about as much use as tits on a stallion.
Finally my biggest concern in all of this is with Sadler/Waddock because surely as a support for Sadler Waddock needs to exert a bit more influence over Sadlers inexperience.

Absobloodylutely, sums up our current situation in a nutshell.
What I cannot understand is this Flynn ‘love in’ that has suddenly erupted, the ‘football’ we had to witness was excruciating, grinding, defence minded hoof ball rubbish that would not be acceptable on a Parks pitch, yet here we are with certain posters telling us all how wonderful life was under Flynn dirge. Give me Sadler’s expansive entertainment any day, surely yesterdays match was far more acceptable than Flynn’s 0-0 mantra?

You make a good point. I can only presume that Sadler is trying to keep them as fit as possible over these early matches. They are clearly our most effective players. They are playing as a pair which is good to see after only a few games.
From what I saw yesterday Matt and Oteh are not playing as a pair and immobile as Matt is he needs Oteh to be closer to him. That may be solved in time but I think would leave DJ on longer with Oteh or DJT in the next 2 league games.

Don’t understand the Waddock comment.
It maybe his idea to sub the front 2. Probably isn’t but you get what I mean.
Just because he isn’t on the touchline shouting over Sadler doesn’t mean he isn’t influencing.
I watched him at the start of the second half. He took note of Crewes sub coming on and went straight to Sadler to I presume discuss their change and anyvtactical shift that may result.

Well, as usual, I watched a different game from most.

Not so good things: the equaliser was very similar to Morecambe’s winner but it happened because we were set up for a long throw but they changed the direction of the cross. We should not concede goals like that. The substitutions worked well against Stockport but not yesterday - there is something missing with Matt. At the moment, he is not worth a place and DJT would have been the better sub. And, I wish we would not go on the back foot at the first sign of trouble. Finally, we should have been 3 or 4 nil up at the break.

On the good side, the first half was probably the best we have played for a long time. We dominated them completely and Hutchinson was magnificent - he looked a class above everyone else. The formation worked well and McEntee was effective. Gordon and Daniels were terrific throughout the game and Foulkes came back well from the Wrexham trauma. He is going to be a real asset,

I saw lots of positives. If we can take that forward with a win on Saturday, we are well placed. At the end of last season, I wondered why I had bothered to watch the game. That is not true now and I remain optimistic that we can do well in a very competitive league.

Byfield is working wonders as our attacking coach then as he had only worked with Oteh before I believe, maybe our next manger in waiting.

Would be the best result, because Matt is going to get some right pelters from the crowd if he continues to put in his walking frame performances, trouble appears to be that Sadler and the management seem to ‘rate’ him, regrettably to nearly all of us he wouldn’t come anywhere near any team in a Walsall shirt (and again, how on earth did HE score that many goals for FGR in their promotion season? were we in a parallel world?)

I actually find it sad to watch. A local lad who genuinely seemed excited to join us and loved scoring his goal i front of us last season. Gave him the benefit of the doubt last season as he had been in and out with injury.
But he has clearly just gone. OK don’t expect him to run around like Draper and defending a lead maybe his instructions are to drop off a bit more but he was completely unable to get hold of balls played in to him yesterday. Easy control and lay offs under little pressure just didn’t happen. Shocking and as I say sad in a way.
Players legs go rapidly. Seemingly we give too many of them their final resting place.
Peter Clarke, Ward, Williams and now Matt

Yes, that is a puzzle. He has perhaps slowed down but that cannot be the whole story. It may be that their style of play suited him better. To be fair to him, he has tended to come on when we are more defence minded but I think the idea is that he can hold up the ball, but he is not doing that. He seems a likeable bloke and I wish him no ill but he is not worth his place at the moment, I would start him in the Cup match to see what he can do.

3 points better off but would go on to not win another league game until 12 games in.

Honestly, this is futile. My points are being pulled out of context.

Football is judged on league position and a points per game system. I have provided the data above to show why we doing better at this stage last year. It is not up for argument. It is not a Flynn love in. If Sadler has us 10th, 3 points outside the play offs by January and in the FA Cup 4th round, then all those that wish to can start justifiably comparing and knocking Flynn. Have a field day, by all means.

I am not anti Sadler and I am not pro Flynn. But trying to say that shipping goals for fun and losing 2-4 is somehow better than drawing 0-0 is in any way promising or comparable to where we were last season is absolutely ridiculous :joy:

Like I have stated above, saw all this with Clarke. Then when he started being successful at Vale it all went quiet. Just gets tiresome.

Can’t justify being 1st change anymore that is for certain

Anybody can pinpoint good parts. Let’s compare Sadler run of results against flynn from jan to April ( if Sadler makes it that far) I’ll put any money on Sadler and even kevan Broadhurst would come out on top

Was he? He went on leave for 4 months and vale went on a good run and when he come back they dropped off. He then won the play offs which is fair enough but he then got sacked the following season. He gets credit when he wasn’t even there for half of the season

Ok, just as long as you come back at the end of October and the end of April.
