They scored on 60 minutes and subs come on at 69 minutes ?
The ball didn’t go out in all that time mate ?
I just feel sorry for people who are negative after yesterdays match. Fantastic entertainment albeit with a disappointing ending.
They was deffo stood on the side for a while waiting to come on but it wasn’t 9 minutes.
Which backs up what I was saying mate subs should have been made when we was 2 up and the midfield needed an extra man in there instead he waited for it to be 2-1 and then the inevitable happened.
A couple of things worried me with Sadler’s after match interview on wm. Firstly when he said maybe i should give Draper more minutes push it to 70 minutes. Sorry but what happened to players playing a whole game and threatening there defence for 90 minutes? Secondly when asked about Tuesdays game he said he hadnt thought about what team he is picking yet. Ok i know its one game at a time but surely he must of thought about or discussed what he plans to do before now
Surely you have to judge Flynn over the entirety of his reign, though? It’s harsh to compare such a small sample size when there’s loads of variables like standard of opposition, home games, injuries, etc.
Like @P.T said, I don’t think anyone would be saying Keates is a top manager, but after five games in League One that season we had 13 points and sat in fourth position level with Sunderland.
Draper should have come off for Riley and put in midfield and everything else should have remained the same imo. mcentee had a good game at centre back and gives us a better balance so Sadler decides to bring on Williams and put him in midfield again. There’s no doubt about it Sadler costing us points but we do have a decent enough squad in large parts. Like most said from the start it’s a mid table squad atm.
I’m not sure subs should be preplanned like that to be honest. If you have two strikers that can only last 60 minutes no matter what, that is a problem.
I said yesterday he should have left DJ on even if he was tired, always a goal threat and a worry for the opposition defence. They didn’t have to worry about Matt scoring. His hold up play is decent too, the ball doesn’t bounce off him. He is a clever player actually and looked more than capable of seeing the game out.
He could have rested him Tuesday if he had thought about that game…
I have the courage of my convictions mate, same as I have done for the decade plus I have been on this forum. I’ll be here, and hopefully for once, I am proved wrong! Would be nice.
People now trying to insinuate Vale got promoted in spite of Clarke rather than because of him is the best yet. Some people are just great arent they
Well clarke was an appalling manager for Walsall, so we’ll have to disagree on that one too.
I thought the best was when people suggested we were shite under Clarke in spite of him, rather than because of him.
Strange. I seem to remember Clarke jumping ship having had his best assets sold from under him and then winning promotion elsewhere the following season? And, I seem to remember Flynn’s form nosediving when Bennett and then DJ were lost.
Now, the common denominator there is board room short termism. Sadler has the full backing of this board and DJ for a full season, literally no rugs will be pulled from under him - so really the bare minimum should be finishing higher than last season.
What would you call taking half of the season on leave?then getting the sack less than 12 months later?
Port Vale are in a league higher than us. That promotion is on Darrell Clarke’s CV, just as the Bristol Rovers promotions are. Irrefutable facts.
Anyway, off to watch the Lionesses’ - have a fab sunday all
Yep he came back at the end and took the glory from his assistant who done all the hard work. Have a good day
This is where it falls short though, mate. Clarke wasn’t getting us into the top ten even before Adebayo and Jules were sold, we’d won 8 league games in 26.
He knew the game was up and made a very shrewd career move.
This thread has become pretty good this morning with sensible and articulate debate! Bloody refreshing.
Im personally in a position either side of it at the moment and agree in part with what most are saying. Ultimately it is too soon to say what this season will bring. I do think the next three games will be wins but that will probably mean nothing by December.
I missed Wrexham (live) and Crewe but got to see the all the other games in the flesh. I have really enjoyed being back especially Blackburn. I’m looking forward to Brighton and im working on the wife approval to go to Grimsby instead of going home to Devon
I like PTs suggestion we have a mindset of losing at this club, I believe its a phenomenon in sports psychology that can permeate throughout the club. That mentality can effect the fan base and means some supporters are so ‘damaged’ by the past disappointments they are guarded by signs of success, If you believe in that sort of thing… could be nonsense.
Fingers crossed we can start to come together with consistent performances on the pitch, not expecting wins just exciting games where we dont get outclassed by better or inferior teams. Results will naturally come with that.
Just rewatched crewe second goal, and it was a very poor goal to concede.
Yeah totally. It wasnt meant much deeper than a prediction of the next three games. If im right it wont really mean much either, i just think they are home games that are in our power to win. Probably get thrashed just as our hopes are up
My first thought was Evans could have done more.Whenever a ball travels that far through the box I usually look at the keeper. Is that a bit unfair this time round do you think mate?
