Darrell Clarke confirmed as manager

Let’s see what he can do with one arm tied behind his back.

I wonder what assurances he received from the board in this respect. Surely, he wouldn’t of agreed to join us unless he has managed to get some things to go his way in terms of what he needs to do his job from the board.

Also was Jeff at those meetings?:rofl::rofl:

Interested to see what happens with the backroom staff now. Imagine there will be a considerable cost to pay-off Keates’ team.

Seen a few Gas fans mention he did his best work on a budget. Hopefully his coaching badges and relationship with Ward mean we’ll be taking greater focus on developing youth players.

Jeff’s probably desperately trying to set Keates up with a job, so he can get said club to pay him for their services :joy:

It’s going to be an interesting few weeks as we see the various arrivals/departures of backroom staff and playing staff.
Hopefully we’ll be able to judge the level of support Darrell is going to get by the quality of both sets of arrivals/departures. Here’s hoping…

Looks like he will be getting rid of nearly all the current squad then if he likes ‘hard working’ players

Darrell Clarke looks like the best we could have hoped for, so I cannot help but be pleased.

The one down point is that Clarke has been unemployed since December and would probably have been interested in coming here on 6th April when Keates was sacked, or on 16 February after the defeat at Coventry.

With hindsight it is pretty obvious that leaving Keates in place long after he had lost the plot was a mistake, and not making the best available replacement when he was sacked, presumably so that the club was not paying the wages simultaneously for three managers (Whitney, Keates and Clarke), has probably been responsible for our relegation.

Happy with that. Great record. Young but experienced. Now they HAVE to back him financially else it means nothing.

I just add what others have already said.

Seems a good, positive appointment.

However, we REALLY need to back him with some proper investment otherwise we could be getting rid of another manager early due to them being unable to perform footballing miracles with a playing budget more resembling a petty cash balance.

Please with that appointment - wanted him or Hill so can’t moan.

Good luck to him. My God he will need it too - hope he knows what a shower of ■■■■ runs the club.

I’ve got no complaints with this appointment, I always preferred a younger hungry manager who has ambition to better himself! I would imagine that John Ward has marked his card regarding tight fist Bonser and the shambles that is WFC, so I’m assuming he was happy to work in that environment. I really wish him success and hope he can bring some pride back into our club. Still as always Bonser, Gamble and Mole OUT!!!

You have to be joking! Anything to do with the football side of Pension Fund Inc. holds no interest whatsoever for uncle Jeff, until it comes time to tell him how much money they offered him to take on this poison chalice!
Good appointment, young hungry no nonsense approach is what is needed.
Now for the clear out. Firstly that shower of crud on a money for nothing jolly that called themselves ‘backroom staff’. Just get rid wholesale.
Then on to the so called players that took us down into the 4th Division. Just get rid wholesale. (with the exception of perhaps a couple of triers & the Cookie monster)
And what about this so called youth set up that along with the ‘infrastructure’ cost us nigh on 50% (hahaha) of all Transfer fees? We have seen some great talent come through there haven’t we!
Come on then uncle, let’s see if you support this great appointment with some financial backing…wow flying pigs again!

Good appointment let’s hope he gets some backing with a decent budget (some hope) ticks all my boxes no previous connection with club and has managed a league club before

Very happy with this, hope we get Sinclair and Lines as the new look midfield now. :slightly_smiling_face:

Four promotions at his young age is some achievement. And tells you if nothing else he is a WINNER.

It looks like a good appointment, maybe even very good, but it’s always good to curb your enthusiasm. I only haven’t seen, that this person ticks all boxes. It was used so often earlier and probably after so many xses, it was hard to notice, wrong boxes were ticked. I can only say good luck, because you never can have enough of it. Especially in footy.

A completely new coaching team…pleeease! Perhaps one that coaches players, tries routines for corners and free kicks, and some shooting practice AT LAST!
Looks like this appointment has dragged Optimistic out of retirement…go for it lad!
