And the faith that the board will reinvest that money? When it hasn’t bothered for transfers, trips to wembley and sell out crowd in cup matches in the last few seasons?
Exactly, the issue over the past few years is that we haven’t been willing to offer attractive enough terms compared to most clubs in League One and the top end of League Two.
Suspect we quite often have to work down through our 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice transfer targets and then see what is left, which explains our generally slow progress in transfer windows.
Our budget is bottom 6 of L2. That’s a fact. Let’s just hope he can work miracles. The club haven’t backed him, they have just gone through the motions like every other season.
So you’re claiming you know our budget and every other league 2 budget for next season?
How can it be fact? The season hasn’t finished yet and clubs haven’t finished releasing players.
Yes it is. You shouldn’t have to rely on a manager to work miracles to achieve your stated aims. That’s a bonus.
If you give him the resources and he doesn’t manage it, fair enough. But to not give him the resources and expect him too anyway, just cos it happened once, is foolish.
Based on size of support, potential support, backing from owner, overspending etc. Plymouth are bigger, whichever of Mansfield and Newport doesn’t go up will have more than us, Swindon are bigger, Tranmere are bigger, Bradford are bigger. That’s 5 or 6 off the top off my head
It doesn’t matter how much money club has for the next season. It matters how it will be spent. I can safely say, two latest managers were not good enough at this. I hope DC will be better. Sometimes spending fifty pounds more will be enough to achieve goals, sometimes spending 15 million more won’t give any success. Now I just want to wait and see, what will be his decisions. That’s the most important thing.
How is it that people claim to know what our budget is when the club guard that piece of information better than The Crown Jewels?
We can speculate that it ain’t the best, but to claim knowledge of it doesn’t stack up.
Clarke said this was the case at Bristol Rovers on the Not The Top 20 podcast posted by @TomWFC92 , so it’s something he will be used to. Probably helped him get the job if talked about in his interview
Belphegor - How do you think people get to find out inside knowledge? I know our budget for next season. You’ll see I posted yesterday about about the manager and that one certain candidate was out of the running due to his desired playing budget. No I’m not divulging it before people start slagging me off for teasing.
That’s under our control.
Bout time we made some controlled losses ourselves then. Don’t buy this “at least we have a club to go to” balls. Clubs aren’t going out of business left right and centre. It’s the nature of the business these days.
Literally means nothing and is a figure that can be just plucked out of the air.
Our average support for last season would have been 6th in league two, with three of those clubs due to be promoted. It was also a relegation season and, if the promises are to be brought, next season shouldn’t be (We were in fact 18th in League One for the season).
I’m not interested in these feeble excuses anymore. Especially not in League Two. If we expect to be promoted our budget needs to be a promotion one. This club needs backing. Full stop.
OK, I’ll take you at face value.
Are you saying that our budget is already agreed?
Are you saying that you know the rest of L2 clubs budgets, which have all been agreed?
It doesn’t stack up a week after the end of the season with play offs still to conclude.
I’d also add to this:
The people defending the club over it’s pathetic spending are missing the point. Giving somebody about a budget is not about guaranteeing success. It’s about giving the team the best chance of achieving those goals.
No a bad budget doesn’t automatically mean you will fail and no a good budget doesn’t mean you will automatically succeed. But it does change the odds drastically. You shouldn’t be relying on a manager to pull a rabbit out of his arse.
Yes the budget is agreed and has been agreed for months. Plans had been put in place either if we stayed up or were relegated. The rest of the L2 budgets are privvy to people at the club based on last season.
You know our budget for next season…
Suppose you know the ending of game of thrones too ?
That’s exactly the response that makes me think twice about posting at all.
This looks like a great appointment. But then I thought Russell Martin was good signing. All the best to Darrell.
You shouldn’t post this stuff… if you’re not going to share the info… it’s pointless
Yeah bye then!
