Believe his enrolled him at Walsall Technical College …plumbing course …of cause
Very happy with this.
The club have acted swiftly and got in one of the required managers for league 2.
Now FFS give him a competitive budget and who knows next season might not turn into football armageddon which happened this year.
Devlin will go aswell if this Leadbitter guy is coming in.
BTW to the board insider…who was the other manager in the frame? Initials or cryptic clues fine.
Thank god for Clarke as I had this random worry about Dean Saunders being in the frame before I saw the appointment had been made at lunchtime.
Devlin should be kept if possible. And made captain. Especially as Clarke likes to use overlapping wingbacks.
Happy with the appointment. Proven track record of LL management and has a lot of experience, especially being a relatively young age. He may not have been first or even second choice but he’s been appointed, so it’s up to us to get behind him.
Having 19 players OOC is a good basis for any manager to come in to as it gives them a chance to really change things should they want to.
I’ve saw people mention him going in for players who have played for him before. I remember watching us against Brizzle a few seasons ago and being impressed with Sinclair - hard working, not flashy. Just what we need imo, a bit of graft. Not sure on how Leadbitter would fit. I’ve saw comments that he is better going forward than he is defending - similar to Devlin and he’s had dogs abuse for 2 seasons due to his inability to defend. Lockyer will end up going to a top end League 1/mid table Championship team I reckon.
agree much better than what we have currently and they actually do the jobs they are given.
Russell Martin appointment was ■■■■■.
He has just replaced us with current club.
I saw him play for us. In midfield!!!
He can certainly rattle.
If Darrell Clarke hadn’t been sacked by Bristol Rovers in December, we would have avoided relegation. Rovers’ form improved after that, and they beat us comfortably on Boxing Day - a game we expected to win.
Three points from that game and we would have survived…
There’s an almost linear correlation to wages paid and league position. While it’s easy to pick out the odd outlier, the wage bill dictates position.
Without the rent albatross, we’d be looking at a higher league position, with all the associated mutually supporting benefits that would provide.
A new manager is great, and Clarke seems to be a good fit at first glance, but let’s not lose sight of the fact that the club is hamstrung and a crippled shadow of what it should be.
Great Appointment
Nothing else to say , first time since Smith was appointed I feel the club may have it right keeping it’s 1 in 4 manager run going
Fingers crossed , Championship football by 20-21
I’m using this years figures though. I don’t know what the budget will be I’m just sceptical, considering our board, that it will drastically improve. Which it needs too to give us our best chance.
Genuinely can’t understand supporters that give our board a free pass “cos Leicester won the premier league once”.
And I can’t understand supporters that think other supporters are “giving the board a free pass”, simply because they have opinions in discussion about the football side of club that don’t mention Jeff Bonser in every sentence.
Unfortunately that’s exactly what it is. And why we have cycled through managers for the past ten years save for one. I guess that’s the fairy tale. Hope Clarke’s the next one.
No it isn’t. You can be very aware and vociferously opposed to the Bonser regime. You can hope for and be active in trying to bring about change, and you can still enjoy watching the football, you can still have optimism that Darrell Clarke and the new players he will bring to the club will give us a successful season next year.
I literally just said hope is all you can do. It’s all our leadership allows.
I hope I’ll be a successful Rock star banging supermodels every day. Doing nothing to achieve it mind. Bit like our owners.
If you haven’t got that, I can’t imagine why you’d go on supporting and spending time on a message board. It’d be like a relationship with a lover that had gone bad, that you tell yourself you can’t stand anymore, but you just keep clinging on.
What I find preposterous in all of this is that Clarke is somehow stupid and naïve and hasn’t bothered to check, both with the club and with others within the game, that he’s got a competitive budget for next season. The idea that he’s suddenly going to get a shock when he finds out is ludicrous.
On the face of it this has to be as good an appointment that we could expect but . . .
How can DC be expected to make the right call on which out of contract players to ship out or retain ?
If he is his own man and it looks like he is surely he will want to run the rule over everyone before getting rid of?
If that is the case that will be when the players report back surely?
Then in turn that gives precious little time to replace whom he gets rid of with a new season imminent.
Probably getting a bit cynical in my dotage but seems to me old Uncle Jeff has played his trump card yet again and if things start to go wrong the deflection blame game has already been put in place.
As someone who managed in league one this season and who, since losing his job, must have kept a very close eye on goings on, I would think he pretty much knows the attributes of each player. What he won’t know is character, and I’m guessing that’s where ward and Davies come in, to assist him.
