Darren Byfield

Not for the manager, no. But for a first team coach who will be on a more personal day to day with the players, yes.

For him to recall good times, how good it is around here when things are going well and how the fans will back you can only be a good thing.

Especially the bloke who scored the winning goal in a play off final. Sure the players will be interested in that and would hopefully want to replicate that

Would be pleased with this.

Makes Waddock’s role a bit more important as Sadler and Byfield are relative novices at this level.

I’d still be asking the O’Kelly question. Not so much around a full time role. More as a retained consultant. If it suits us and suits him I think he has so much knowledge and skill anything we get would be golden. You look at O’Driscoll and Smiths records with and without O’Kelly and you can see he makes a huge difference wherever he goes. Smith was never sacked in a decade whilst with O’Kelly. He’s been potted three times in the two years since.

Sadler, Byfield, Waddock and O’Kelly as a consultant would be a fine management team.

Fair point, surprised Walsall Wood worked out thd way it did, especially given the funds that were available.
We will see how it pans out I guess, good PR for keeping the supporters quiet for a while I suppose

Good luck
An ok coach with his experience
Obvious chosen with his club links and sadlers friend in mind
Not an appointment that is overly vital with the club In regards of making a huge difference to the season

Does that make it WestieJack 1 v 1 Dhforever? Or have I missed something? Good luck Darren

I was listening to Troy Deeneys podcast with Michael Ricketts the other week and Deeney was really complimentary of Byfield. Named him as one of his most important mentors as a youngster.

Happy with this.

Crawley fans don’t seem happy that he’s been able to leave them, seems like a good appointment.

That’s a fantastic bit of work.

The media team are being slack again - the OS is still showing both assistant head and 1st team coach positions as TBC. They have updated the first team page with Stirk, Hussey and Farky (fairly quickly after them being announced too) but not DJ or DJT yet, and it’s still last season’s team photo even though a large chunk of them are no longer here.

And they usually have the pre-seasons in the upcoming fixture list but not done that either.

Welcome back Darren!

This is something that hopefully the new marketing and media manager gets on top of.

I know it’s a relatively minor thing in the grand scheme of things but stuff like this belies the “can’t be arsed/that’ll do” attitude that has hung around the club for years. If they can’t get even simple things right, it’s no wonder other things go wrong too.

Hopefully we will have the benefit of 3 lots of different ideas and tactics from the new management team and fingers crossed we can pull in O’Kellly also on a consulative basis to support and nurture the team

There needs a massive shift in playing style and hopefully with Byfield coaching the offensive players we can invert the old hoofball , über cautious style we saw last season from Flynn and Hatswell resulting in 20 odd draws where potentially we lost our way

There needs a big sign in the dressing room…Attack is the best form of defence

Looking forward to an entertaining and fruitful season
