I think this is a good thing.
We are a football club and having a football expert on the board has to be good. Don’t just want that person to hire and fire managers but also oversee the whole football strategy and philosophy at the club.
From the school and community programme right through to the first team. A type of manager and a type of player and a type of person we want involved. A “this is what we’re about” individual who is committed for a long term spell in the role. It has to be long term as there is a lot of stuff to sort out.

Small step in the right direction.
Small drawback, it takes some time, before effects of his work will be visible.
And of course how his voice will be heard by other directors and/or coaches.
Who do you think could do that kind of role?
Not Ian Holloway, Richard Money, David Kelly or Jimmy Walker

I listened to a podcast in the last year or so with Chris Powell who was looking to become a Director of Football. He’s obviously had a great playing career and has even been involved with the England coaching set up aswell.

Huge fan of this.
We cannot continue the way we do, so even an half decent person in this role will improve us in my opinion.
Also takes a tonne of pressure off whoever the coach is.

An excellent dof could be the best signing Walsall have made in years!
The right person could make a huge difference to keeping the club going in the right direction with a style of play every manager has to buy in to

I do presume this means Dutton is going to stay for rest of the season and this new dof will be inflential with keeping Dutton/new manager.
Says to me Pomlett needs help in recruiting the right man after getting it so wrong with Clarke/dutton he wants that football knowledge to make sure he gets the next manager right
