Director of Football

Sent your application in yet mate. Sounds like you meet the criteria :joy:

Anyone applying for the role will have a network amongst football. That’s firstly absolutely crucial.

Dutton might be a great coach one day, but I’ve no doubt it would be a disaster asking him to build a squad from scratch, which is the main thinking behind this. If it’s not Dutton, it will still probably be a young coach I’d imagine. So it still applies.

Secondly it needs to be someone who will utilise a tightened playing budget properly. Something Walsall have struggled with for years ending up with ridiculously lobsided squads, I. E Whitney spaffing all his dough on wing backs and crying i to his beer at pre season friendlies.

And the rest comes after that for me. Whatever that might be.

Wasn’t Sanchez part of the crazy gang set up at Wimbledon? i would be in favour of him getting a crazy gang atmos down at the Bezla
Ok it was long ball football but the camaraderie was second to none, i would suffer that for a season to see us back in the first division again, then introduce some skilful footballers get the American backing then onto the championship there you go sorted

That was part of the crazy gang ethos also, remember the photo of Vinny Jones giving Gazza a good squeeze :joy:

I can just see it now, Sanchez bringing tears to Gambles eyes as he tells him what the playing budget will be :joy:

Nah, I want someone who knows what it takes to get the best out of League Two/League One players and what surroundings to move a League Two/League One club forward rather than someone who knows what works with French, Spanish, German players etc.

Sun tan man it is then.

What’s he doing these days ?

In prison :joy:

Can’t see us signing any foreign gems anyway with the way new rules after Brexit are liable to affect teams at our level. Not even with a Suntan man mk2. So no more Andreas Makris’s sadly :grinning: Going to have to have to depend on who is available here already.

Very interesting article Hullsaddler. Our new DOF will know all this of course and will find opportunities for us. Not a bad thing if the top flight has to rely on the EFL a bit more.

Thats not such a bad call mate, even though in jest

We could find the new Jamie Vardy

One for the DOF or LP to look at

If they can swim through the water to the changing rooms.

Being local is a key consideration for me. This person needs to live and breath the role.

Think I am gonna put £ 50 on this fella TBH

He fits but we probably won’t see much of him and be gone mysteriously

Martin O’Neill spotted on the M42 apparently :man_facepalming:t2:

Surely that is the head coaches job? I want someone with fresh ideas, emotional intelligence, business acumen and a wide network.
Most of the names mentioned on the thread are old school or just old. The Johnson fella sounds interesting though.

Don’t know what sort of DoF he’d make, but he’s obviously a ā€˜chicken’-meister.
