To be fair, Sadler worked with him last season, it’s not like he didn’t know him. If he didn’t want him he shouldn’t have signed him. If he was signed against his wishes then that is another matter, so who is making those decisions?
It’s not hard to see why we aren’t making any progress really. I’d imagine DJ is being paid really well relative to the wages Walsall pay. Can’t afford situations like this.
If he’s a “bad egg” then surely anyone with an ounce of managerial ability would have realised that during the half a season he was with us, and hence wouldn’t have spaffed a significant wedge of playing budget on signing him. Which ever way you look at it its pish poor management.
Tommy Docherty said, about the art of managing a football team, that it is trying to stop the five players who hate you from persuading round to their point of view the six players who haven’t yet made up their minds. Always made me laugh, that has.
Then Sadler and the rest of the hierarchy in charge would have been aware of that before we signed him permanently surely?
Sorry just saw @geordiesaddler reply
Dont know if anyone else noticed but there was also a load of anger thrown at Sadler at full-tume from the posh seats behind me from that lot in the 1888 Club. I think when they start being seen to get peed off the Directors also start to take notice. I think one bloke nearly gave some of the old fogies a heart attack.
Happens up and down the country with the most experienced managers and boards. No idea what the underlying issue is here, but it’s not unique by any means.
I just hope it doesn’t become a major distraction and affect the squad overall.
Built our entire marketing campaign over a player the manager doesn’t want to play. Can’t be many clubs that would completely destroy all the feel good factor that came with it. Why sack a manager who can get a tune out of the marquee signing if we were going to sign him all along. How we’ve ended up in this situation is so depressing.
I saw a video earlier of Newcastle fans laying into the team last night at Bournemouth (fair journey to be fair) Trippier went over to have it out with them.
I didn’t get involved with the booing and it really isn’t helpful but it’s not about one game. Frustration boils over eventually.
I like DJ but when issues start becoming a thing between player and manager, and the rest of the squad look to be backing the manager then the only solution is moving that player on.
Whether he deserves to be starting or not, when he isn’t we can’t be having issues which could cause huge problems in the season.
I get that most would rather DJ here than Sadler but it can’t become a thing that the board back one player over a dispute than the manager. It can’t happen.
