Look at the league table and reason why it’s acceptable for us to finish below the sides we did. It wasn’t acceptable. Simple.
Was it acceptable to those fans who go and clap their hearts out regardless ? Yes they lapped it up. Don’t expect us all to love it though. It was rubbish.
Are we really saying Sadler stumbled across the success of this season, nothing to do with the foundations that were laid last season and all the coaching at the training ground and targeted recruitment over the last 18 months.
He stumbled across that back three and I think a few times he’s tried to reintroduce “first choices” it doesn’t quite work. I made the point that even the world’s best stumble on solutions. That solution isn’t the only reason for our success but it’s the cornerstone of it.
Can’t fault how this team plays or is set up this season.
There is a lot of truth that Saddler has stumbled into success. Key to Saddler’s vision for the team was Josh Gordon, Daniels and Priestley. If they had not suffered long-term injuries, the evidence is that they would have been automatic picks. The presence of these players would have led to us scoring fewer goals and letting more in. I suspect we would be outside if the play-offs.
Saddler has also been fortunate in the brilliance of Lowe. Just as David Kelly single handedly won promotion for Coakley, Lowe is pretty much doing the same for Saddler.
And where are Crawley now? They got lucky for one season. If we go up we already have the basis for a good division 1 team .For the first time in a long time we have a number of players who will be comfortable at that level .I am amazed that folk still see the need to criticise and go over old ground. Let us look ahead and see who we recruit this January and in the Summer to push us to new levels.
