… or daft recalls to parent clubs
Top 7 minimum with this squad imo
3rd
Two essentials needed to be a successful side you need players that can score goals I think hopefully we have improved that situation.and you need a defensive unit to keep them out at the other end, this for me is still to early to determine ( to many ifs and maybe’s ,injuries ,form, ect ) haven’t been seriously tested yet .we get this right things could be looking up.
This is a squad capable of getting promotion. It’s up to Sadler and the management team now to get the best out of them and keep them motivated.
This is my concern it’s alright us thinking we are looking good which right now we are and i like the signings but this could all change in January if they do well as we’ve seen before.
Tbf if the loans do shit…the clubs won’t want them back to loan out to higher league teams . Feels a very good window atm. If I’m picky i would have liked another CB. We’re 1 more injury from real trouble there
I personally dont see stoke recalling simkins and lowe due to both clubs having a good relationship. Baggies other than if they have an outragous injury problem i cant see cleary recalled plus hes also played for them and soon to be us so cant loan to another club. Hall, most likely to be recalled. Again just my opinion could be wildly wrong
And some input from ROK i hope
Before the first league game we were 14th on the list at 59.5 - 61.5 so clearly there is a few quid gone on (including mine at 61.5 and 67.5) and the bookies are taking notice.
The quadruple is still on
What about the Walsall Senior Cup?
Forget that. Fixture congestion
Possibly not the right place to post this.
Opta article on the season so far.
We are doing well on high turnovers apparently and on many other metrics.
I would guess that the fact we have played 3 poor teams in Swindon, Morecambe and Cheltenham makes us look better.
@CompletelySaddled is probably the man to ask!
But then we’ve also played Birmingham, Huddersfield and Exeter and come out with three wins.
I appreciate that, but I think the article only deals with league games.
I know, just saying it’s no fluke that we’ve beaten three poor teams in the league saying we’ve had no real test, but then we’ve played three top League 1 sides and limited them all to very little in terms of clear cut chances.
I agree, like pretty much everyone else on UTS, I am delighted with the start we have and the way we are playing.
I think that league games are a better reflection, because so many teams (including ourselves) don’t play their full strength teams in the early rounds of cup competitions.
We also have so many injuries at present, with first choice players missing.
Fascinating. I love these OPTA analyses. Thanks for sharing.
I found this extract interesting.
Top of the expected points table in League Two are Walsall, with 9.4. It’s generally a good sign if you attempt a lot of shots and don’t allow opponents many. The Saddlers lead both metrics in 2024-25, having attempted 63 shots and allowed opposition sides just 21 at the other end of the pitch – with just four of those on target, too. They’ve outperformed their opponents for shots and xG in every match, but possession isn’t key to Walsall’s strategy. Getting the ball in the final third of the pitch is.
Field tilt measures territorial dominance between teams, looking at the share of possession each team has in their attacking third compared to their opponent. A field tilt of over 50% means you make more passes in the opposition’s final third than the opposition make in your defensive third. Walsall are fourth in the League Two ranking this season, with an average of 63.3%. They may have a successful pass total that’s the sixth-lowest in the competition, but 39% of those passes have been in the final third of the pitch – another league high.
Even when they haven’t got the ball high up the pitch, they look to win it back in those areas frequently. No League Two side have more high turnovers this season than Mat Sadler’s men (32 – level with Barrow), while only Newport County (6) have attempted more shots than they have following high turnovers of possession (5).
From October 2023, when I was trolling according to some.
The signs were always there….
