Us, Colchester and Derby are the only clubs in the EFL who haven’t had a promotion since 2007!
How depressing. No sign anytime soon either. Aren’t we blessed?
At least we can create a new record when Colchester and Derby ARE promoted
I keep telling the kids that “Their day will come” I don’t even believe it myself now.
I wonder how long before they ask me why I keep taking them there, cos nothing good ever happens.
All they have ever seen is shite.
They will thank you when they are older Mark
I don’t know this is their 2nd cup run in 2 years.
Just trying to take the positives Blazing.
Yeah to be fair me and my youngest did have a great day at Stockport last season, and my eldest hasn’t missed a home game (that I have been to, I skipped the odd one) since the Leicester game.
I guess I had the good times with my Dad, along with suffering all the not so good as well of course. I just want the boys to see something worth while just once. It will come hopefully.
They already know that if Carlsberg did dads
I started going to watch Walsall in 1998, just as a golden age was about to start. I’m very grateful to have those memories to fall back on.
Really feel for anyone who started supporting us since 2007.
There’s basically a whole new generation of kids that have only seen us lose which is very worrying when wondering where the next fans will come from, can only see attendances begin to drop off over the next few years.
Well it leads to the old saying
“things can only get better” but in our case sometimes i am not so sure
Similar, my first game was 97.
It’s been like a long term relationship, started out so fresh and exciting, but I’m now at the point where it’s a chore, everything irritates me, and I yearn to feel the love and excitement again.
Good timing! For me the golden era was the Buckley babes, i seem to have forgotten many of the inept performances espeially away when our midgets got steam rollered, but nowt can take away that cup run.
The years since 2007 have been mostly dull, compare that to the sixteen years before 2007, several promotions, and a few relegations, and some exciting cup games with Leeds, Forest, Blackburn, Bolton, Charlton and, of course, West Ham. And regular League games with WBA, City, Blues, Wolves, Palace, Ipswich, Norwich, Stoke and others.
Plus I was able to watch Jimmy in goal for over a decade, Kyle for four years, Pedro, Jorge, Jeff Peron, Scotty, MOC, and lots of other fantastic players.
Since 2007 we played some great football at times under Deano and the Great Escape was joyful, and watching Romaine and Tommy Bradshaw was a delight, and Oztumer, and Jamie Patterson, we’ve had good players…but mostly it’s been dull interspersed with terrible bits.
One thing I do like with the current regime is the attempt to keep players here for more than a single season. The players become part of the Walsall family and it makes the fans more sympathetic to them. It’s one of the aspects of the game that has changed the most, mostly due to Bosman.
My first game was 1958, the club had been through tough times with re election in previous years but we were about to enter a truly great period in our history.
I was only eight at that point so had no idea what lay ahead (promotion’s).
That was for me our golden age but like all things in life it didn’t last.
The current situation feels like an endless decline but just as the good times don’t last forever neither do the bad ones.
I guess some Ancient Romans were saying this in Wroxeter some time* around 450AD.
I feel like a problem gambler, the sort who keep having one more spin or bet because their big win is bound to be coming soon - and of course it never does. I keep supporting because I don’t want to have stopped when we finally turn the corner. I do wonder though if there is actually going to be a corner.
Maybe we should be sponsored by FOMO brewery instead.
This is gonna be a tough tough scary game
