FA Cup Round 2 Draw v Alfreton (a)

Banging tie for the Ripley branch of the Walsall supporters club. I wanted that one or Derby. My Brother - in - law who has been a regular down at ‘Often’ Town in the past reckons they’ll give us 1300 tickets. Away end has the best facilities in the ground as well apparently. Just please don’t ruin it by losing Saddlers.

Won’t get beyond season ticket holders with away history I think.

One of those where we’d have taken 3,000 or more if available.

There are some other ties that might pip us to the live TV game.I hope they don’t but surely we are in the mix for a live game.

Love it.

Been there a few times over the years in friendlies and always enjoyed the experience.

Cracking draw couldnt have been better

Does being chosen for the last round make us less likely to be picked for TV this time?

I’d really like a bye in the next round .and the next and next ect

It’s a fantastic draw. I’ve been there a couple of times and it holds about 3500 with 1500 seated. Local, winnable and a good chance of making round 3.

Probably…unless your name’s Wrexham!

TV Pick Long list (last season 4 games were shown with each club netting a £60k TV Fee)

Maidstone v Barrow
Chesterfield v Leyton Orient
Aldershot v Stockport*
Alfreton v We
Eastleigh v Reading*
Chester / York v Wigan

(* certs?)

It’s a long list this time so we might miss out by virtue of us having already been televised, although Alfreton will be disappointed. Then there’s Wrexham to accommodate!

Happy with this.

Good chance of getting on TV and we’ll be favourites.

Last time I heard Alfreton was in connection to Tom Leak. Think he’s moved on now though?

BBC might have us? Not sure whether different broadcaster makes a difference

On Alfreton’s official website there’s no mention of Tom Leak in their 20-strong squad.

I hope so. Alfreton must be one of the lowest ranked sides in the competition (Cray Valley notwithstanding).

Yes, that’s exactly the list that stood out to me. If there is one that doesn’t have so much attraction, I’d say it’s Maidstone v Barrow. Although, waiting in the wings you’ve got Wimbledon v Ramsgate and, of course, TV channels love to make a big thing about how the former once won the cup and now little Ramsgate are taking them on.

So 50/50 whether we get picked, I’d say. We certainly should.

I was convinced it would be Bolton away.
Happy Days.

In addition to the two asterisked (agreed as favourites to be televised, btw), I reckon Chester/York vs Wigan is pretty nailed on… an ex-EFL town fallen on hard times at home to a recent-ish cup winner is a made-for-TV narrative, at this stage.

Be great if we can pocket another TV wedge plus that sweet victory bonus… with Swindon allegedly short of cash, and Flynn notorious for loving a bit of a January overhaul, we can wave a chunk of FA Cup money at them for Hutton, and plug one of the two gaping holes in our first XI.

Alfreton are away at Rushall on the 14th (a week on Tuesday) if anyone wants a preview.

Depends if they split it and only give us 600
