Surprisingly entertaining game, given the conditions. From what I remember we played the better football but somehow contrived to lose- 3-1?

Mick McCarthy was centre-half for Man C and blatantly shoved over one of our forwards for a penalty. He went mental at the decision, and after the match the manager (Billy McNeill I think) moaned that McCarthy’s reputation had influenced the ref. I suppose coming from a Barnsley team managed by Norman Hunter may have been a factor.
