My recollection of Clarke’s time in charge is really sloppy errors from practically everyone who played. Credit to Luton for spotting something in Adebayo who did always work hard to be fair and had a good touch. But personally thought he should have scored more for us and never saw him getting above L1. His penalty miss at home to Southend being a particular low point.
I genuinely thought Clarke was the perfect manager for where the club was but his spell was generally underwhelming.
I think the problem was just the hangover of relegation and it taking another year to snap out of the losing culture so Clarke would’ve probably been a better fit around the time Flynn came in and it had at least stablised in league 2. Mind you I thought Flynn would be decent aswell.
Not beyond him to take Barnsley up although league 1 will be very competitive so if he does that it would be four promotions either side of his Walsall stint.
Roberts was always a good keeper. Came in for some unfair criticism on here…not really surprising but I am pleased he is doing ok.
He compares quite well now doesn’t he to present day now gone ,Evans and Jackson .A keeper who made the occasional blunder .made some blinding saves at times to get us something.yes lost a bit of confidence as a remember similar to DD last season .not the worst goalkeeper to have worn a Walsall shirt .and went on to have a successful season at Northampton and since.
And Barnsley.
Good keeper who lost confidence and became a scapegoat.
I always rated Roberts. He did make a few high-profile errors, which led to some fans getting on his back. He seemed to have a bit of a weakness with long-range shots straight at him for some reason. Every keeper loses confidence occasionally, but you just need to work your way through the bad patches!
Episode with Jon Macken on Undr the Cosh
Probably one of our most prolific penalty getters ever, but we didn’t even get a mention in the article.
Interesting article and a mention of Ash Taylor
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cw0yk2nz4q5o
He obviously went for European football.
This made me chuckle reading the article;
The ‘pub team’ formed at Bruno’s bar in Gibraltar for just £500 in 2013 now find themselves mixing with Europe’s best.
Despite the odds again his side, Magpies boss Rooney wants to keep raising the bar.
Can’t leave the pub puns alone, if he sets the bar too high this will happen:
The journalist who wrote that story also has an interesting history with Walsall FC …
…and seems to want someone to steal his lavatory.
Ex winger Daryl Taylor now fitness coach at Shrewsbury, apparently been doing a similar role at Vale previously
If memory serves me right scored a worldie away at Oldham back in the day
Brendan Kiernan has signed for Crystal Palace
Yes, it was early in the season i think and was a super strike. Did he get a couple?
Edit:
Or maybe against Vale.
Heads gone. Cant remember now.
Was it away at Bournemouth?
Yeah scored two that day
Yes, definitely Bournemouth away with an overhead kick in a 2-2 draw after being two up. He also scored against Vale at home in the previous game in a 3 2 win. Leroy Williams also scored.
Im just watching the dvd.
Great to watch.
Wracky, Fryatt, Leitao, Roper, Standing, Merson.
He also scored against Oldham. Blimey, Mckinney had a mare in goal.
Whatever happened to leroy williams. I remember that game thought we got a talent here, played a few more vanished
Horrible, diving, ungrateful barsteward.
