Maybe - it just seems to coincidental to me that our form changed when he rejoined in the background. It was a similar story with Smith, when he joined, Smith turned a corner and then fell off a cliff when O’Kelly left Villa.
That always annoyed me the fact that they still would be making a significant profit on Deeney and also the money they received for getting in the prem .
Given a few seasons later Deeney went on to leave Watford for nothing, it could be argued they also lost out on £24M because they weren’t prepared to just honour the deal we made.
I’m no Bonser fan, but he did the right thing. They were taking the pee as we would have originally took a lower fee when he was first sold to agree the sell on. And it would have sent out a message to other clubs that they could try it on too
It could also be argued, by staying he helped Watford stay in the premiershite, where the rewards dwarfed the £24M and we went downhill.
Anyway, if we got £1M, £3M or £6M, where would it have gone?
Romaine was a top player for us, absolute quality.
I don’t see where he would fit in to this team though. Don’t think the system we play would suit him.
It might now. His former role with us wouldn’t but he’s not always played this position and was very effective from a deeper more defensive, position at the bag ladies.
Suspect that we’ve already got adequate midfield strength already though.
Yes so we have a composed midfielder in games where we are struggling under the cosh or when the opposition sit back .
However he wouldn’t be a guaranteed started in the way we play so he wouldn’t be interested
