Met Don when I took my dad for his 50th to Darlaston town hall for an evening talk.It was Don Goodman and Steve someone. He was one of the first million pound signings so I believe but can’t remember his last name.He was a Dingle if that helps.Had a really good chat with him about the playoff final and stuff he’s a real genuine nice guy is Don.

Sounds like it would be Steve Daley.

My dad used to know Steve Daley through work ( not football), he got me a signed Saddlers shirt which was good of him.

Only issue was it was Mark Robins :eyes:

And us.

When we played City their fans were all singing “What a waste of money” at him. Technically he was the second million pound player after Trevor Francis (although his transfer was overshadowed by Wolves immediately using the money from City to buy Andy Gray from Villa).

During his time with us, my mother came back from the (cake) bakery she worked at to tell me his parents were among their new customers (not sure if they had a shop or a market stall). They’d got chatting after she’d told them me, my dad, and my brother were Saddlers.

They told her that the pressure of the price tag had got to him and it never worked out for him after that. The family were hoping the step down and return to the midlands would help him rebuild his career.

She asked if there was any message I wanted her to pass on the next time they came to collect an order. I said to tell them that he was still a waste of money - and we’d signed him on a free! :joy:

Alfie Bates has left Seinäjoen Jalkapallokerho in Finland and is returning to England

He should be used to the weather then!!

I am sorry to hear that. It sounds as if things did not go well for him there. Finland is not the most hospitable place and the language is a nightmare. It’s hard to see him getting a league club in the UK.

I have found that most countries in the world adopt a second language, Scandanavia usualy English, and everywhere you go in the world they have English signage, if not Spanish or French

Or most likely he just ain’t as good as everyone thought he was.

It happens.

He’s better than I thought he was
