If we play anything like we did last season 18th could be a target to aim for
I was watching walsall fan tv yesterday with gab sutton and i tend to agree with him… cant really see a spectacular season coming up as although we have squad depth our first 11 isnt a standout in the league… i know we dont know who the first 11 is yet but even with everyone available in the squad its still not a standout 11… i really hope williams steps up this season as the 2 friendlies ive seen this season… leamington and rochdale chris hussey hasnt been great… also hope knowles isnt permanent rwb as although when hes on it he is good going forward… i also think he is awful at defending
This came out a week ago so previews would’ve probably been submitted mid July to be edited so basically at that point it was assessing last season’s squad and Sadler.
I think a bottom half prediction is very accurate as things stand. It’s good DJ is back but plenty of teams have prolific scorers and finish bottom half, Armstrong at Harrogate scored 16 but they weren’t far off bottom 2 in the end.
My Mum asked me at the Solihull friendly last year where we’d finish and I said 14th. That looked very pessimistic in January, not so in May. If asked tomorrow I’d give a similar answer.
Not like FF2’s promotion picks are bizarre (bar perhaps Donny). Wrexham and Notts coming up with big budgets and huge momentum and Stockport signed Louie Barry on a season long loan while likes of Bradford and Salford are usually in the mix so to me trying to break into play offs will be a tougher ask than last season.
Bradford and Salford in play offs, Northampton up in Autos, Stockport were one win away from automatic aswell.
Harrogate, Hartlepool, Colchester and Rochdale were all bottom 6/7 in the end aswell.
More like April/May
I’d agree with Gabriel sutton also. 11th 12th is about right with the odd bit of ‘prick teasing’ around 9th just to keep us interested in making the play offs
Think I’ve picked us to finish 10th that would be an improvement just don’t see us having enough to trouble the top 7 hope I’m wrong maybe 24/25 will be our season
I think for that to happen we would need another Dicky Dosh or Sir Ray influence
Maybe Sadler will give us that who knows?
I agree mate it’ll take something special to do it this season for me.
Really important league two news coming in this morning that, according to one of the top 4 football stories on bbc sport, wrexham drew a pre-season friendly 1-1 last night. Strangely, i can find no mention of walsall’s visit to solihull later!
I suppose we have to take heart that the BBC know the name of one of the clubs in L2. As the season progresses and Wrexham complete their fixtures the BBC will learn the names of the other 23
That’s a nasty dig at the BBC. After all they already know Salford.
Barbra Streisand said as many as ten teams could win the league this season, there is no doubt it is hugely competitive.
I’d personally be happy with a top 10 finish and plugging some of that rather large gap from the last 3 seasons between ourselves and the play offs. With a good young squad with plenty of upside potential I’d hope this time next year we’re in a position to launch an assault on the top 3/7.
Thingk my concern is if walsall falter quite early into the season, I cannot see many fans attending, still feel season tickets are down on last year, i will attend as many as i can but had to give up season ticket this year due to health.
Hang on, all this talk of possible success this time next year…some of us might not be around! I would like to see a degree of optimism about THIS season for a change!
We have a reasonable squad, whilst we also know that we are up against one of the strongest, most difficult seasons to find our feet, if as I suspect Oteh & Draper tear up a few of the unwritten laws this year, surely we could make an attack on the Hollywood millionaires, Stockport’s and Notts Counties who, according to most in this country think will walk away with the auto places?
WE should be thinking promotion candidates, not mid table also rans…change the record! Weem Worsul aye we!
Glad to see that at last you have seen the light it much more pleasant on the optimistic side.
This is genius.
About time too… UTS is full of disgruntled pessimists…little wonder after what we have witnessed for the past number of years, we are considered as mid table fodder, an easy 3 pointer to those clubs with ambitions (unlike us). This year seems tad different, we have some good attacking players in this squad who can do damage…lets just hope they prove that we may, perhaps, no longer be the Music Hall joke of the EFL.
Yes, but apart from that
A good article here about Crawley, and also how their transfer policy of the “Moneyball” philosophy hasn"t really worked, which some one here think is the way forward. Well worth a read.
