Fryatt Hotel Watch - 2021 Summer Transfer Rumours

Whilst we’re all waiting patiently for some signings, I noticed from pics at the Essington training camp, just how limited it is in training equipment. It seems that players have to queue to use bikes etc, which would be a major problem if there were a full squad in attendance. Maybe it’s a ploy by the management team to give the lads currently on the books more time to build up their fitness levels before further additions are brought in! Just a thought.

I’d rather the club take their time this summer - instead of jumping at the usual dross.

I agree with this as I’ve posted many times in the Clarke reign we definitely had too much dross and not enough good quality players , who should have been supplemented much earlier by our own young players and a much better use of the loan system.
I can’t imagine the new management team would have agreed to take over unless they were sure that there were sufficient resources available to them to put their plans into action.
If this isn’t the case then the club has some explaining to do , and would make the Chairmans videos very cringe worthy .
Personally I don’t believe this is the case .
I hope .

Osei Yaw still available! Why oh why are we so slow to pick up such amazing starlets?
Some movements this week may go a long way to staunching the current rumblings amongst the fans, hope springs eternal, we shall see.

I’m pretty sure they have to stagger indoor training for groups anyway. England, who have the whole facility at St Georges, are having to do the exact same thing.

And on “waiting for the right signings”, all well and good, but I’d suggest we need to sign them before they bugger off elsewhere. We “waited for the right signings” in previous seasons and didn’t have a first team until the Thursday before kick off. Not sure how you gel a team with most of it’s first teamers missing weeks before a football season.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect at least a starting XI in place before the first pre season friendly. If nothing else, it’s good to get those partnerships working across the pitch.

I’d hope to see another centre back and left back before Saturday.

Having just watched the chairman’s new update he reassures us that 3/4 new players will be in by the start of the campaign .
So let’s wait and see

LP’s update this morning he says he expects 3 or 4 more before the start of the season and are targeting the right individuals and if that takes longer so be it

Also said if we’d signed 11 of variable quality by now he’d be concerned. Another subtle dig at DC?

3 or 4?! fuck me we’ve barely got any players! 3 or 4 covers the goalkeeper, centre half and two left backs we need. We don’t have any strikers and one out and out winger.

As for the dig at DC, he said the exact same things he is saying now at that time too.

If our coach and physical fitness team are up with the play then having one each of everything is a luxury. It’s not a spin class. HIIT is all about rotation.

Goalkeeper, Left Back, Centre Half and Centre Forward before the season kicks off then would be my guess.

And pray nobody gets injured.

We really would be on a roll if we signed Yaw. We definitely need to pitch in for him.

As a minimum. Throw in a wide man who can play either fullback or wide midfield.

LP seemed very confident about more signings before we kick off in August.
I’m sure all of us are pleased to hear the focus quality players and the transforming of our club.
Let’s face it, we’ve been so passive for decades, it’s Walsall, nothing changes!
We finally have an owner who wants to drastically change things for everyone’s benefit, more power to him. We all hope it’s successful.

The general consensus on this message board over the last five years has been that we should sign quality over quantity and use our youth in case of emergency. Now suddenly we seem to be being more pragmatic with our recruitment and everyone is panicking about the quantity!

I’d expect numerous trialists for the first few pre-season games, so “not being able to put a team out” is a ridiculous take on things at this point. The Cheltenham friendly will be the first time we can judge properly, with a week to go to the start of the season.

Spot on Pingu :clap::clap:

You can count me out because I have literally never said we should just rely on youth in case of an emergency :man_shrugging:

I don’t really care less about the friendlies, and haven’t mentioned them, but 3 or 4 before the start of the season is simply not enough.

Well said. Quality over quantity please. CB LB and 2 up front (including 1 who can play wide). If there is 4 new coming in that would be my priority, we can presumably play a kid on the bench for GK and get an emergency loan in if something happens to Rose. Supplement this with a couple of good kids on loans and we should be ready, although admittedly a bit short on numbers in squad terms.

I think 4 permanent and a couple of loans are needed as a minimum.
