Grimsby Town (A) - League Two - Sat 19th Oct, 3.00pm

An incredibly tough looking game. Grimsby have started well and on paper at least have had a much tougher set of fixtures to date. I’ll be brutally honest with you all, I’d snap your hand off for a point. It’s a game where we will have to be at or near our best if we want to emerge victorious. Grimsby fans on their forum seem extremely bullish about their chances.

Agree entirely, this is going to be a tough game.
I’d always take a point away from home but in fairness this Walsall squad is more than capable of locking horns with anyone in this league and holding their own.
We have a solid defence a decent midfield and firepower with excellent players as backup right through our team.

Daniels, Comley, Gordon (Liam) and McEntee all available for Saturday

There’s going to be a couple of players missing out completely down to the amount of quality we have available.

I’ll be happy with the 6 we got last time there

Tough game this. After our victory at Prenton Park last season I had a feeling Tranmere might turn us over there - and they did (though we were the better side). I’m fearful of similar this season at Grimsby who’re playing well and going to be motivated after the 6-1 thrashing we gave them on new years day last season. Hopeful of a 1-1 with Conner Barrett getting off the mark for us. UTS.

Assuming DD emerges unscathed from his two international games he has now got under his belt I would bring him back in, having Captain Fantastic back on the grass will be a huge boost for players and fans alike and much needed leadership on the field. I’m a huge McEntee fan but he’s constantly crocked, we need to manage his recovery very carefully.

So is Daniels.

I think this fixture is a tough one.We won 6-1 last year and they will be motivated to get revenge 2-2 will be a good result.

Former keeper in goal so we won’t score go for 0-0

Yep.

Macca walks back into that back 3 if fit.

I think our best team at the moment is:

Hornby/Simkin

Macca Williams Allen

Barrett Earing Stirk Jellis Gordon

Lowe Matt/DJ

I’d expect the team won’t be far off that on Saturday?

I think Lakin will play, but other than that about right.

Still to prove himself imho, would rather have Earing all day long but he also needs handling very carefully time wise so he can recover from his terrible injury record.

Why is it we have so many, and have had historically so many skilled players that have been let down by poor injuries records.

Farq is also one I’d class as top drawer when fit, but alas has more injuries than Holden had.

Think there will be some hard decisions to make on players that are constantly injured, how ever good they are when fit whether they will/ should be offered new contracts.

In my humble opinion although Earing may possibly have a bit more ability from a managers point of view Lakin is far more dependable and can also pop up with the odd goal.

Tough game this
I’ll be delighted with a win and happy with a draw

Not sure it will be 1-6 this time when DJT looked like Mbappe for a day!

Think it will be another draw which is o.k (need to be winning against this type of opponent at home consistently).

1-1.

I think anyone would take a draw… would be a great result.

However… if we don’t win… that becomes no wins in 3 going into the Carlisle game…

A teeny bit of pressure to win that one?

See no reason why we can’t take 3 points
2-1 to the saddlers .
Lowe double.

The back six had been superb until the Fleetwood . I thought Stirk looked tired in the last couple of games which isn’t a surprise given his work rate and how many fixtures we’d had.

Dave also became a mistake waiting to happen.

The slight dropping of levels meant that our keeper for the first time this season had some work to do and unfortunately did it really badly.

All of which means that we’ve gone from a new slightly invincible version of a Walsall team to feeling a bit 23/24 where we look and feel brittle which impacts us all, not least the team, psychologically.

So I’d take a clean sheet right now regardless of whether we score ourselves. Mcentee will be a big returnee if fit and I’d start Hornby too.

Unfortunately, my own belief is shaken a tad by the eight goals we’ve conceded in the last two so I’m going to go for a 3-1 defeat. Soz.

Safe and happy travels to all those travelling.

We should plant the corners right under his nose.
