If we bottle this……

I won’t hear the end of it from people.12 points clear with a game in hand and bottled it.Wow.

So you saying that we’re going to bottle a point lead, miss out on automatic promotion, and get knocked out of the play-offs by Port Vale…

That’s it, when does the cricket season start?

Can you imagine :joy::joy:

Would we recover?

I still think we will scrape promotion with a home result here and there being totally honest.

Its a shame because it should have been a glorious precession

Gillingham were looking hopeless in the second half until they scored goal of the season. We were lucky to survive even the DJ missed a sitter. Role on Saturday.

I find it disgusting that it’s still in our hands. Shame on you League Two.

If we did bottle it … would anything actually change at the club?
Start next season with Josh Gordon up front and people telling us that our target in August 2024 was only a top ten finish anyway so we actually had a good season.
UP THE SADDLERS

Just can’t see it now . Would give us 10-20% chance of going up . We look shot .

Same.

I think I’d pack it in to be honest. Just can’t be bothered with the disappointment year after year, even when we find ourselves in a commanding position we find a way to feck it up against all odds - what even is the point?

I might just take up tiddlywinks or become a women’s volleyball physio.

Not even worth thinking about.

It just shows how lucky we were to get Nathan Lowe, we have absolutely no goal threat without him. We looked toothless tonight, with absolutely no structure to our play. Our left side was totally impotent, how Liam Gordon got MOTM is beyond me as he was totally ineffective, as was Oisin McEntee. The last two games have shown how limited a footballer he is: too slow to play as a right-sided centre-back in a 3, not enough skill on the ball to play in midfield. We have to give the new midfield guys a chance- if they aren’t good enough then that will show what a wasted opportunity the transfer window was.

We are NOT stronger at the end of the window than at the start. So much is wrong at the moment: we were second to almost every ball tonight, we couldn’t string more than two passes together, our set pieces were unthreatening- those 5 corners we had in a row in the first half were awful. The goal we scored was a complete fluke. Josh Gordon was ineffective, as was Ellis Harrison. We have to start DJ with Jamma and give Wheatley another chance. Mat Sadler was praising Josh G’s work out of possession, shame he didn’t do anything with it! Mat needs to shake a few things up: we are not failing to win due to bad luck, quite the opposite: Gillingham were the better side and deserved to win, and the goal they scored was brilliant, scored by the best player on the pitch. It’s sad to see us struggle so much: perhaps we really were just a one-man team!!

If we bottle it I will be here next season as usual. I think Mansfield lost out a few times before going up and they had much bigger budgets as do Gillingham !!! If we don’t go up it will mean that over the season we were not good enough. The table doesn’t lie and I as a supporter would have to accept that. I would be bitterly disappointed , of course, but after 60 odd years you do become a little immune.

The performances have fallen off a cliff. Our home record is still tremendous but jeesh that was painful at times.
Failure to get promoted will break a few, as this division is abysmal.

It might just kill me off too.

I’ll never support anyone else… but the thought of another year in this wank league… being 12 points clear and having a January window… it would be completely demoralizing.

Let’s hope we win at the weekend and calm everyone’s nerves.

Exactly this, W1. We struck really lucky with Nathan Lowe, we certainly wouldn’t be in this position now without his contribution- Josh Gordon and a half-fit DJ wouldn’t have achieved anywhere near what Lowe did. If it all goes tits up, then I’ll still be back for more next season: we’m Worsul, ay we?

Difference with your Mansfields, is that they invest in their squad. Owning their own forwards and showing real ambition.
We will be League 2 forever (and probably National League).
Crowds would diminish and our out of contract players will leave.
Rinse and repeat.

This is one thing I noticed tonight.

Jamma is usually on the right hand side of the front two, and when we had Lowe upfront, he would do tremendous work running the channels and that enabled Liam Gordon to do so well. Their inter-play was terrific.

I said it at the time, Lowe was so much more than a forward for us - he was playing way above our level. He’d drop in to a 10 role most of the time, but have the pace to get back in to a number 9 role and pinch-hit goals (apologies for the cross-sport metaphors), but then he’d also run channels for us and drag defenders out of their comfort zone. This gave other players the opportunity to shine

I think it’s this that most people don’t appreciate - yes Lowe scored a hat full of goals, but his all round game was so good that opposition teams were so focused on stopping him that other players were afforded space and time, and now Lowe is gone, they’re not getting that. To compound it - our replacements for Lowe have been extremely poor - Adomah, Wheatley and Gordon cannot get anywhere close to that level of performance. Hopefully Harrison can, he is showing promise, but it won’t help it Mat keeps preferring JG to him

I disagree. There have been improvements over the past 2 seasons and not just down to loan players and I would expect there to be more next season whichever league we are in.

Most likely to lose some key players that will be hard to replace.

I’ll still be there regardless, but I feel it will be a blow that will be difficult to come back from for some time.

It’s not over yet though.

To be told we aim to come out of the window stronger than we went in and then the manager ignore all seven window signings suggests a real problem.

On tonight’s selections we’ve effectively swapped Nathan Lowe for Josh Gordon. A downgrade akin to swapping Shergar for Hercules (Steptoe’s oss).
