Improvements

Simples, but effective Dave.
I sometimes think we are far to complicated for our own good nowadays.

Every well arranged event I’ve ever been to has beer pre poured when they know the demand is there.

Seen festivals operate smoothly by doing it and then changing the following year and it causing chaos.

If each bar poured 50 of each pint at half time it would be so much easier. I went in a suite at Old Trafford last year and they had nothing ready, poured each pint from scratch - couldn’t believe a club like them would be so ■■■■.

LP needs to be told at the next meeting with the fans, maybe they thought fans would complain about it not being a fresh pint if it was pre-poured .

This. It’s common at sporting events to have beers already poured at HT ready to be handed out.

When I go to the Rugby in Cardiff, I never have to wait for a pint, even with 70 odd thousand alkies in the ground.

To be fair you can pre order a pint for HT. I do this most times and it’s usually there ready for me, they just top it up.

We ordered HT drinks on Saturday and even had to que for those too !

I still go down two or three minutes before HT to get the pre ordered pints without queuing.

I had to queue for a drink half time and still got served before a mate who had pre ordered his drinks

Some suggestions:

  1. Saddlers Club
This isn’t just a venue for a pre-match drink, it should be doing other stuff in collaboration with (but independent of) the club for the benefit of fans AND also contributing towards the club coffers. So it’s in addition to the club’s own hospitality offerings not in competition against them.

Surely the 3 supportes groups we now have could between them provide a management committee?

The building itself needs some money spending on it. It’s on the club’s agenda but not the top priority and I reckon most fans want it spent on the team and immediate matchday improvements that the stadium needs. So how about some sort of collaboration with an interested party (we are sponsored by Banks’s after all) so that it doesn’t all fall on the club’s shoulders.

I’m also aware we have fans who are involved with local CAMRA; have these any useful links with parties who might be interested (maybe even setting up something along the lines if Orient’s Supporters Club?)

  1. Travel Section
This is supposedly a part of the supporters club but is still going after their demise (in premises provided by the club). We know Royston isn’t very well at the moment so the organisational burden will fall on a smaller number of shoulders. Can the club step.in a bit more to help - perhaps even doing some sort of subsidy deal to help maximise our away following and generate some income back (as we don’t get a share of away game gates)?

If they can do something before next week we might be taking a few more to Plymouth than ticket sales so far suggest.

  1. Other Transport
In a similar vein, can we do something about bussing in remote fans for home games? Maybe even getting a dedicated train shuttle in from the town centre on match days?

  2. Club Shop
First of all, I get that we don’t have the fanbase to go completely mad in terms of range and sizes, and that also affects price, but I’ve hardly bought anything from the shop for a few years now - combination of hardly any choice, what there is doesn’t change very often (not going to buy the same tie or mouse mat twice!), and the sizes are limited to kids or skinny people.

Instead of just getting a job lot of stuff in that we can’t shift, perhaps some kind of catalogue or samples on show that you put your name (and size) down for and when they have enough for it to be economical they send in the order?

  1. Second Club Shop
I know people have said there’s an issue about business rates etc, but some sort of presence in the town centre (even if just a concession in another store) would heighten the club’s profile in the town and make it easier for fans to buy tickets and mechandise.

  2. Widen The Fanbase
We already do some stuff with schools etc, but we need to do more outreach to get the next generation of fans coming to games. I’d also like to see more women and families coming along, and more members from other local communities, as we are very white male dominated (yes, football is generally, but we seem to be more so than most other clubs from my observations around the country). It can’t be right that there are more black faces on the pitch than in the crowd.

  3. Programme Shop
Any chance of this reopening? Might not fliat every fan’s boat but it provided a service to a number of people who made regular use of it.

  4. Access
More and better pedestrian and vehicle access to all sides of the ground. E.g. exits onto the Broadway, and to the retail park.

  5. Catering
If we can’t improve it ourselves, how about franchising it to someone who can AND still put money the club’s way for doing it?

  6. Can’t think of another - suggest your own!

Agree about building and merchandise. Ladies toilets leaking all over the floor in corner of family stand. They also were blocked, not nice. The range of clothing for women in the club shop is non existent. Some nice leisure tops in realistic sizes would be good. Not everyone is a size zero.

Well failed to get served again tonight at half time. Queued at the bescot bar only to be told they had no hot drinks and must go to one of the kiosks and queue again. Still in the queue there when players came out so left it. 2. Home games and at both the club have failed to take money off me I wanted to give them.

Pomlett’s first sacking should be the catering manager.

My main gripe with the club shop in the past (haven’t been in for a few months even though I’m at every home game) is the pricing. There are T-shirts and other leisure items that are bang ordinary but because they have a Walsall badge on them the club seem to think that they should charge double the price.

I would suggest that they offer a better range of items and charge a sensible price and the takings would surely improve.
